I'm just getting back to blogs after a week off.
I admit, I searched for the post like Sci-Fi Dad did. (I was curious).
I agree with you. It wasn't nice.
Honestly, my kids have a ton of stuff too. The thing is, Matt, like your daughter, (and like me) has his stuff out. He plays with it, he sleeps with his stuff, etc etc.
It doesn't mean you have too much "inventory" it means that your toys are being put to good use.
I always find it amusing when I go to people's houses and their kids' toys are all in the right boxes, put away neatly, and used only in the right capacity. Where's the creativity there?

I don't have kids, but I was a kid once upon a time and I don't agree with the "every birthday, every holiday, you must deplete the inventory." My sister and I had lots of toys. We took good care of our stuff and were generous kids - don't see how it did us any harm? Our [11 years] younger sister inherited all eventually, then our [20 yers]younger brother inherited the non-girly stuff when he came along. And they each added new stuff to the mix.

I could see how storage could become an issue, but eventually kids grow out of stuff. Until then, if Monkey wants a bed full of stuffed animals, etc, how is that a problem?

<abbr><em>JavaChicks last blog post..<a href="http://javachicksblog.blogspot.com/2009/05/what-it-means-to-be-fit.html" rel="nofollow">What it means to be fit</a></em></abbr>

You should see my children's rooms. They have tons of toys. Every now and then we go through the toys and give stuff to Goodwill but I don't think they are overindulged. I just wish they would play with their toys in their rooms!

I totally relate, again! Lucas is so attached to his huge toy collection that I just don't have the heart to make him donate some. He too was a first grandchild / nephew and has a lot of toys. In his defense he plays with all of them all the time.

WTF is right!!!!

I'm glad Anon is home.
Have a good week!

When I read your post today, where you quoted the other blogger, my initial thought was to agree with her general principle. I know that my own kids have way too much stuff - "treasures" collected along their 6 & 4 year-long roads of life. I know that I enjoy giving them little gifties - or treats or rewards for being especially wonderful - even though at some level I think that kids shouldn't need rewards for everything. I also know that I have to do inventory, in the true, Walmart sense of the word, where I go through it all and get rid of a lot of it, so that we can find and appreciate the things that are really worth keeping.

But then I clicked on the link to your original post, where the comment had been left, and I was like, WHOA! This totally doesn't qualify for that kind of thing. Like another comment said, my bed TOTALLY looked like that when I was young. I don't think that those pictures showed overindulgence...just a little girl who loves her 'friends' and has to keep them ALL. Nothing odd or over-the-top about that.

Must have been a fun fun experience for the Monkey going to the ball game. And she's looking stylin'!

Cute dog :)

Don't let the inventory thing get to you. I think the Monkey has a lot of stuff too ... but I wanted to come over and play :) I didn't have much stuff when I was a kid.

I just power read your last posts to catch up and in my opinion any attempt to undermine another parent is not called for no matter where you stand on a subject.

It was nice to get all these updates, I am curious about your new job.
