Hi Haley! I am so sorry you had to deal with such an ignorant doctor! It happened to me a couple of times as well and I can relate with how you are feeling. However, there is no doubt that you are a fantastic Mom, just forget about what he said...

I find plain yoghurt, plenty of water and plums/pears (fresh or as baby food jar) work really well in easing constipation. Try to avoid any type of refined sugar in his diet.

I had to chuckle when I read that you too have a "breast-feeler"! I don't feel alone anymore! Lilyan started putting her hand down my shirt when I stopped nursing, about two months ago (she is 15 1/2 months now) and is now doing it constantly. How did you daughter get over it? Did you have to do anything or she just grew out of it?

I've been meaning to comment for days now so I apologize for not being topical about the doctor. Thank you for your posts (and kgirls comments above were great too, on the verge of a developmental breakthrough, yeah that must be it). Not to copycat you again but my 16 month old has also been in a terrible mood (to put it lightly) for the last 3 weeks. Terrible eating, ill tempered, up a gazillion times through the night (only to have me surrender, bring her into my bed and have her kick at my head all night), she has just been so miserable. In my head I know it's a combination of teeth, and poor sleep but my mommy guilt tells me it's because I work full time and she's in daycare or because she's my 2nd kid and she doesn't get the same attention as my 1st did. Anyway, totally tangenting there but I just wanted to thank you for sharing the not-so-perfect mommy moments. I love your blog for the raw honesty and I cheer you in your happy moments as much as I sympathize and so relate to the challenging moments. I'm in the same boat and it's nice to know I'm not alone.

My son struggled with constipation for a whole YEAR. But I had the opposite advice from the doc. He was all, "Give him some prune juice. It will clear him right up." No dice. Even milk of mag didn't work! We finally got things under control with Benefiber. I put a spoonful into every beverage he drank. Finally, he was put on Augmentin (sp?) for pneumonia, which has the side effect of diarrhea. Ever since, he has been clean as a whistle!

It's bad enough you had to wait so long at the doctor's office. And then to be subjected to a lecture? I wouldn't have been very amused.

I hate when doctors are rude.
I've actually changed doctors because of this. As a parent you do your best.
Also, teething has always made my kids constipated, and I've always done prunes/applesauce. I'm not sure that you need something stronger.
Hang in there.
And, enjoy the country.
