We are just sitting here, eagerly awaiting the finale of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA. My cousin, Miles Faber, is one of the FINAL FOUR, and we couldn’t be more excited for him. No matter where he places, we are ECSTATIC. I mean, he made it to the end, Gorgeouses! As far as he could go!
To watch your cousin achieve A DREAM, and on NATIONAL TV, is truly a gift….

Miles with hottie-hott-hot Nico Archambault, the other male dancer in the top 4 of SYTYCD Canada.
Anyway, my cousin’s RIPPED abs have motivated me to get mine back. My monkeys are old enough now that I have no excuse for looking preggers. Even if I WAS wearing a massive (white — i.e., NOT slimming) ski jacket….
I got SICK of trekking to the gym for yet another lame-o class-o, so I’ve been doing a lot of walking. I bundle up the kids, plug in my earphones, and VEE GO! BUT, who am I kidding? It’s f-f-f-f-freeeeeezing outside these days. The LAST thing I want to do is FREEZE for 45 minutes just to burn a measly 10 calories. No. And, my doctor recommended I do something that will get my frustrated MOMMY emotions out — like, erm, kickboxing….
So, I’ve decided I want to try a DVD again. You can buy them on Amazon for under $20 (including shipping) — so, still cheaper than going to the gym. AND, you can do it in the comfort of your own home.
What I need, though, is one I can do in the LEAST AMOUNT OF TIME with MAXIMUM EFFECTS and MINIMAL BOREDOM, of course. It’s the MIRACLE WORKOUT DVD. Because, when I used to workout at home, I tried EVERYTHING. EVERY DVD on the market. Did I mention EVERY?
I did the Jane Fonda (who didn’t!?)….

…the Kathy Smith….

…the Denise Austin….

…the CRUNCH series….

…(God help me) Richard Simmons….

…I even tried the JENNY GARTH video….

…and Kathy Ireland….

…BELLYDANCING with Neena and Veena….

…the New York City Ballet program…

…and when that didn’t work, YOGA BOOTY BALLET…

Don’t even get me started on Yoga and Pilates videos. I have them ALL. So, what do YOU recommend, Gorgeouses? I would LOVE to have something that’s 30 minutes of cardio only. I can handle the strength and stretch with my own yoga practice. I’m not sure if I want something dancey, or kickboxy? No clue. WHAT DO YOU THINK? What should I get?
Or, should I just turn on the radio and dance my arse off….

I do the Dancing with the Stars videos, because I freakin’ love the show, and lemme tell ya — after ten minutes, I’m sweating. Totally effective, too! I’ve lost inches doing this DVD.

I would suggest going and doing a dance class. I took a hip hop dance class and I had a blast and sweated lots. I also liked the time away from the family.

Have tried them all… Here’s where I’m stayimg. No gym/no long sessions of caridi. Check out http://www.fityummymummy.com. It’s for busy mom’s!!She’s only been doing it a year and is amazing. Seriously… 15 min of intervals and 15 min short burst exercise 3x a week or 15 min/6x a week. I have never sweat so much in my life… and I used to do spinning!! Check out the site and I can personally vouch for it.. there’s a great online supportive community. The women are amazing… and Holly believes in whole/healthy/organic eating… you will love it and her I PROMISE!!

I’m not good at what to tell you cuz I have tons of exercise stuff “laying around” not getting used here too. I guess that whatever you choose, it should be something that you have an interest in. I know you’ve done ballet & yoga in the past…those would seem the way to go, but apparently not on DVD if you’ve already done them.
I know that schlepping out to the gym isn’t doing it for you either.
Perhaps you should sell your fitness DVD collection to fund your next adventure.

oh, and I’m thinking that seeing as you don’t eat anything that could be considered fattening and you are doing yoga all the time with your class that perhaps this is where your body is supposed to be right now. I know that I couldn’t loose anything for a while after I had DD…I think my body was hanging on to the fat just in case I got preggers again. At least that’s what I’m hoping for, cuz I think Aunt Flo is thinking about taking a permanent vacation here soon…and maybe the lbs will come off then.

I would recommend against kick boxing, except that it’s YOU, the fabulous Haley-O who is in tune with her body. It can be dangerous to be kicking wildly, but I think that you know your body better than most, and well enough not to get hurt.
Sorry that I don’t have any recommendations for a video. I say dance! And do some crunches.
And Haley, for goodness sakes, you were wearing a parka. Cut yourself some slack. I know a lot of people are telling you that you look great. One case of mistaken identity does not erase all of that.

ohhh did I mention I am teaching my own bodystep class at the JCC!!! omg…. killer

Turbo Jam!!!!
It seriously made me like to exercise for the first time in my life. Check it out!!!!!!!!!!
Seriously.
I lost 20 pounds in 4 months eating good (no dieting, just watching my serving sizes) and doing TURBO JAM! And I’m more toned too!
Seriously.
Chalene, the instructor, is such a little bundle of joy, so sweet, you wanna hug her at the end of the workout. Also, the moves are a little dancy and the music usually is very fun. It works like crazy and it’s seriously soooo fun. I bet the Monkey would want to do it with you (or just dance to the music I guess!)
If you get the classic “5 Kickin’ Workouts” DVD, you get 5 kickin workouts :p, all very different. There’s even one that’s only 20 minute long and you sweat like a pig, and you feel it in your legs, in your abs, everywhere!!!
I also love the DVD Fat Blaster, it’s so crazy, dancy, and it WORKS (only 30 minutes). And there’s Punch, kick and Jam that is less dancy, more muscular and a little longer (45 minutes) but I LOOOVE it. And I love the Booty Sculpt Live that is more to build up your muscles, it’s fun.
Seriously, I LOVE Turbo Jam, I could make a TV advertising for them and I would not even be faking it.

no idea, but when you find it, please post it…I have been battling to lose these last 7 lbs for 6 months now & I do not even eat a lot anymore either. I am sure if I start working out regularly it will happen but for me that means waking at 6am to do so…YAWN!!!

wow you have done a lot. I really like The Walk Away the Pounds dvds. The kids can do most of the work with me so I can do it whenever the mood strikes me. (I really am low on the motivation meter) Also good for motivation is http://www.sparkpeople.com. Lots of teams, and message boards there to keep you going. Tracks your food and calories burned. Offers workout videos and strength exercises.
Whatever you try I hope you can do it and stay motivated. Good Luck!

I had to laugh when I saw the Jane Fonda… I used to do that with my Mom after I got engaged and we both wanted to be trim for my wedding LOL! Tells you how ancient I am.
I’ve got a huge selection too; I even bought the back breaking Cindy Crawford from years back (seriously, some of those moves SO BAD for you; and the little guy saying “now, the UDDER way” too funny. Oh, and Elle McPherson’s filmed with Karen, oh I can’t remember her name; but it was filmed in Hawaii, and was stunning to watch.
I have a friend who loves Hip Hop Abs, but she says it’s tough on her back. I go the the gym to get my cardio (the Goodlife Bodyjam class is my addiction).
You must be so proud of Miles…he had a great shot at winning, but honestly, he’s got an AMAZING career ahead of him, those choreographers (and Canada) could not get enough of him. He’s such a cutie and a sweetie pie, I wish him all sorts of luck in the future.

Lu said, December 8th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Have you tried Walk Away the Pounds? The 30-minute video is a 2-mile walk. It’s a total body workout—light weights/arm movements for the upper body, and constant foot/leg movements for the lower bod. I have four different videos (the 2 and 3 mile walks) and I never get bored with them.
Dianna said, December 8th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
The 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels is supposed to be great. I’m going to get it for myself after Christmas. Also, I’m sure you already know, but 8 minute abs work well too. And in a short time period!

I read in the comments that some people recommend 30 Day Shred. I have it, it works A LOT, but it’s boring, no music, no fun. But if you don’t really need the fun part and are really motivated, it works very well. You sweat like crazy and feel it everywhere in your body. And it’s only like 25 minutes long. But again… B-O-R-I-N-G :p
I’m telling you : Turbo Jam, haha! I could even mail you one of my dvds if you want to try it out. I have so many (6 just of Turbo Jam!!!), I can do without one for a couple of weeks. If you want to do that, just send me your address, I’ll be happy to send it your way!
Marie-Christine said, December 8th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Oh, and Miles was awesome yesterday! I’m so happy he made it this far. You must be soooo proud. But I must say that I wasn’t so sad to see Nico win, since I have this huge crush on him, hahaha!!
Congrats to Miles, I’m sure he’s gonna have a great career!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey,
Although I don’t know, offhand, a good DVD for this, see if you can get to your local gym in the next few weeks and try a boxing class. I work for a website called Women’s Voices For Change, and our director has been talking about how much she loves boxing for ages.
Check it out. http://www.womensvoicesforchange.org/2008/12/fighting-back-from-the-holidays-.html
