I’ve been trying to write my blog in the daytime now, when the monkeys are mellow (which really is a rare and tenuous time)! I mean, they put in a full day: we played all morning, painted, danced, and in the afternoon, we went to the gym where I took in a yoga class and 35 minutes of cardio HOLLAAAAH! AND, can I get a WOO WOO! (butthenIateatruckloadoforganiccookies…. willstartdiettomorrow).
A-ny-way. So, here we are. It’s a bit different writing during the day. I really am a night owl. And, today is Thursday Thirteen day, and I’m hoping that as I write an idea will come to me………… Nope. Nothing yet. Oh! Oh! Got one! Here we go….
THIRTEEN THINGS I SPEND MY MONEY ON!
Yes, while on the elliptical machine this aft, I listened to my fave podcast (it’s on the sidebar of Cheaty Recommends…. LOVE it…. inspiring). In the podcast, brillers host Kimberly Wilson talks about how a very wise woman once said that what you spend money on says a lot about WHO YOU ARE. If you want to learn more about yourself, figure out what you’re spending the most money on….
So…. Let’s see….
1. ORGANIC FOODS….

I’m an Earth girl. I try to support the environment as best I can. Every purchase I make is a “vote,” as Jane Goodall said in Harvest for Hope (see here for full quote), so I try to buy things that have natural, earth-friendly ingredients, that don’t harm animals, etc.. It’s expensive, so I sacrifice other things, like shoes (man, do I ever need shoes). It’s a bit of a problem — must. make. more. mooleh!
2. CHILDREN’S TOYS, ART SUPPLIES, CLOTHING….

I’m a sucker for cute children’s clothes, and I LOVE seeing their faces light up when I bring home little presents for them. Yup, I’m a giver…. I can’t remember the last time I bought MYSELF a cute tee!
3. YOGA/NEW AGE BOOKS….
Damn you, Amazon.ca. I spend all my yoga-teaching money on more more more yoga books…. WITH THE CLICK OF A BUTTON! I HAVE NO CONTROL!
4. SKINCARE PRODUCTS….

The interior of Pure + Simple — the only people I let TOUCH my face!
If you saw this video, you know how much I love my skincare products…, and you know I buy A LOT OF THEM, and I ONLY buy THESE products. Seriously. Ever since I discovered Pure + Simple, like, 5 years ago? They’re all I buy — makeup, skincare products, and they do a mean eyebrow wax. No Mac for moi! Although, I do use Loreal Mascara….
5. COOKBOOKS….
Lori, the nutritionist over at Cheaty Kitchen, recommended this book. So, of course, with a click of a frickin button, I bought it, and the one for KIDS, too! And, now that I’m mostly vegan (I’ll be fully vegan, I predict, when I finish nursing in September), I’ll need MORE COOKBOOKS! MORE!
6. STARBUCKS GRANDE SOY NO-WATER TAZO CHAI ($5.19/day on a DRINK?? This has GOT TO GO)….

This says, without a doubt, that I have a sweet tooth. Am a SUGAR. ADDICT.
7. BRAS…. This is a recent thing — which tells me I’m moving toward taking better care of myself…. Hmmm…. Very interesting!
8. GOSSIP MAGAZINES….

This goes without saying….
9. YOGA MAGAZINES….

Also goes without saying…. So many great articles on yoga and spirituality. I also like cutting out the funky images and making collages with/for the monkey….
10. MUM MUMS….

Oh. My. GAHHH. Nothing keeps Rascal MUM like Baby Mum-Mums. Whenever he starts crying inconsolably (like when I’m putting him in his carseat…..), I pull one out, and immediately he stops, and reaches his plump little hand out for it…! My life DEPENDS on them right now. Of course, Monkey loves them, too….
11. CHILDREN’S AND ANIMAL CHARITIES
I’m an animal LOVER — what can I say. I’m a PROUD member of WSPA. And, my company Kids Deserve Art, donates to children’s charities whenever possible.
12. MOVIES (we rent a lot of movies)….

We just rented Spiderwick Chronicles and LOVED it! Josh and I both love a good fantasy flick….
13. STUFF I DON’T NEED….
I just bought this today. Can you say, IMPULSE BUY??? It’s a lavender eye mask. Supposed to be very soothing. Wearing it to bed tonight. I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow….
SO, from this list of things I spend my money on, I suppose you can tell I’m a MOM, a very spiritual person, I love animals, the environment, CRACK STARBUCKS ADDICT, a good fantasy, reading, giving. I could probably spend a little less money on books and a little more money on clothes and shoes for moi, like NORMAL WOMEN…. But, I really am FAR FROM “NORMAL” — and I’m totally coo widdat.
What do the things YOU spend money on say about YOU, Gorgeouses?

Lindsey July 3rd, 2008 at 12:21 am
Omigosh where’d you get that tee for the Rascal?? I keep telling everyone that Baby E’s middle name is “TROUBLE”!!!! LOVE IT!! I’m a sucker for cute kid stuff… even though they have more clothes than me… well almost.
I spend a lot less moula livin’ in the stix, let me tell you! I’m a sucker for kitchen, organizing and cleaning things. Hello new pot scrubber/mini mixing bowls and sponge on a stick thingy that holds soap from awesome kitchen place at the market today!!
I don’t miss my job, just the paycheque.. oh, and the benefits.
You’re a cool chick. Too bad we’re not neighbours!

Great list, mine is up at 13 Not So Famous Last Words; Most Americans die peacefully in their beds, but for those who die violently one can only guess what their final words must have been. I think that after you read these you will have to agree that they do indeed sound like they might have been the last words of those who did not go peacefully into the night.

OMG…are you nuts posting that. Your hubby will see and have amo…Rule #1 - never ever admit to what you buy. Yah gott a confuse em… it goes like this “what, that COACH purse, you mean you are just noticing it now!…like its been in my closet since Christmas…remember you bought it for me as a gift” ALL purchases go straight to the closet then I do not have to LIE and DENY …cause it was in the closet. Thats what 21 years of marriage gets yah…SMART, WISE and a few other choice words that my husband has for me but I wont say them here. Man, you got guts for sure
,,,what about Minden surely you pamper that puddy

Have you tried the Toddler Organic Mum Mums? They are like cookies? I buy them for Matt and they are fantastic - and very little sugar. I bet the Monkey would love them.

Oh that first photo looks like an aisle in Whole Foods or Whole Paycheque as we like to call it. I wish we had a Whole Foods closer, the closest is in Oakville.
So Quantum Wellness is good? I buy too many books must go to the library more often.
The Eat Clean Diet is a very good book, especially for those dabling with a healthier diet and considering vegetarianism, many of the recipes are easy to convert to vegetarian meals or even vegan and many are already both.
Soy chais must stay - never, ever go. But seriously try the ones at 2nd Cup. Super Yum!
Magazines are my downfall, I love health mags and design mags oh and gardening mags and food mags, oh hell I just love them all.
Mum Mums were a fav here too but we are past that stage, just wish they weren’t so expensive.
Haven’t seen Spiderwick but would love to, thanks for the reminder, must go out and rent it.

lately we’ve been buying mostly food and necessities…oh and lunch out…loads of Quiznos lately.
I have a friend who had to purchase a capachino machine so she could quit her Starbucks addiction…she was sending her daughter to the store to buy them! (she was babysitting other kids at the time and the store is just down the street from her house!)
I need to call my mom and see what she is spending her money on…apparently (from my brother I hear) she’s in $ trouble. sigh

A quick tip–
if you buy a starbucks card and register it you don’t have to pay for soy milk (or flavour shots!)
Angie July 3rd, 2008 at 11:09 am
Great list!
My money used to go to Starbucks, but I gave them up about two months ago. A sad move for the taste buds but a positive move for my pocket book. I still have one weakness though, that I can’t seem to curb. I love to buy books! I do manage to read about 95% of what I buy, which is good. However I need to visit the library more and the bookstore less. It could happen.
Have a great 4th!

My weakness that I spend money on is scented candles. I’m addicted!

Love this list. If I listed what I spend my money on, it would be very long and I’d be embarrassed for some of them. Haha! But I too love buying for kids (not mine) and am becoming more and more environment conscious. I spend a lot on books though but am leaning on previously owned ones lately.
Happy TT!

Just FYI that Mum Mums aren’t so good for babies — there has been a few cases of choking on them in Canada (and dying) I know kids can choke on anything… just FYI — and they are made in China as well…
