Honestly? I was NOT looking for a pity party in the comment section last post (or, in my Inbox — thank, you CONCERNED GORGEOUSES)! But, there were some really useful pity-party comments that I, definitely, took to heart.
One of them in particular, from one of my bloggy besties RENEE (who, I gotta tell you, is TRAY wise), suggested I do this little exercise. Check it:
You need some positives! I think you need to write down 5 positive thing about yourself every day. I think that focusing on having to come up with 5 positive things each day will help you stop being so obsessed with the negative and eventually those negative things will go away. Good luck. I’m challenging you to do this Haley…can you do it?
YES I CAN! Hmmm…. A challenge. I LOVE a good challenge. That’s one of my better qualities. Voilà a positive! And, I haven’t even begun the exercise! So, here goes….
Here’s a picture of moi as I am now. Taken today. I will refrain from saying ANYTHING negative about it (even if negative thoughts are flying voraciously around in head).

Okay, so, 1. I have really thick and healthy hair. Hairdressers ALWAYS tell me it’s gorj. The colour is also nice enough that I don’t have to get it coloured — people often ask me if I DO colour it! Sweet.
(This feels weird….)
2. My eyes are pretty rad, actually. I LOVE putting makeup on them. And, a guy once told me “eyes like mine never get old.” Hmmmm…. I let him buy me a drink after that, of course. I also like that they’re really round and big and friendly. I am THE most unintimidating person because of them. Also I get away with a lot because they scream “INNOCENCE.” Heh!
3. Uh oh…. This is getting tougher now…. My lips. They’re big. I understand that big lips are a highly coveted feature….

In grad school, one of my colleagues told me (in front of a table full of students and profs) that I probably get a lot of guys because, with my “perfectly full lips,” I must give good. And, then she tried to put lipstick on them….
4. I am freakishly flexible. I can do the splits all three ways (and if there were a fourth way, I’d be able to do that, too), lift my leg over my head, etc., etc.. Check it if you don’t believe me (note that I did NOT warm up AT ALL before taking this pic and am LUCKY I didn’t pull something — the things I do for you…LOVE!)…
…I’m also blessed with some kick-arse balance…. Weeeee! (Sorry for the foggy pics — my camera battery died so we took them with Pinkberry….)
5. Likes long walks on the beach Eager to learn. I’m EAGER TO LEARN. YES! You probably wouldn’t have seen this phrase on my high-school report card. But, if there were a report card of life right now? I’d get an E for EAGER TO LEARN. It DOTH get me in trouble, though. Like, lately? I KEEP reading books with horrific, TRAUMATIZING chapters on the evils of the meat and dairy industries, and it is KILLING ME. I couldn’t SLEEP last night thinking of the animals — I certainly did NOT expect THIS BOOK to go there! Alas, it seems I’m destined to go vegan, OR SOMETHING! A-ny-way, USUALLY my eagerness to learn leads me to enlightening knowledge that makes life TRAY exciting. Eager to learn…eager to LIVE.
Of course, those are five positive things about ME. There’s much more, I see! Like the monkeys. My beautiful, healthy monkeys. What MORE could anyone ask for than that. I should stop asking, shouldn’t I…. Because I have all I need right here right now.
Thank you, Renee! This was a very healing exercise…. Wonderful….
And, now it’s YOUR turn, Gorgeouses. FIVE POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF. Right here, in the comments, or on your own blog, if you have one! I wanna see, I wanna see!

Hey, I’m first! Woo hoo! I think that saying positive things about yourself is a great exercise! Very refreshing. OK, 5 positive things about moi:
1. Like you, I too have beautiful thick hair that I don’t color but get asked all the time if I do. It is pretty sweet.
2. After years of suffering with acne, I finally have great skin. Took me years to get rid of the scarring though.
3. I love my eyes as well. I’ve been told that they’re the kind of eyes makeup artists would love to work on.
4. I have adorable feet. I wear a size 5 and they’re one of my husband’s favorite parts on me.
5. I have awesome energy. I love to concentrate it on stuff like cleaning and working out.
P.S. Your level of flexibililty is creepy. But wow, I wish I could do that!

Hey! I’m famous! (can I count that as #1
)
hee hee
1) I have really awesome eyes (as does DD!)
2) I am comfortable enough with how I look that I don’t wear make-up. (that or I’m too lazy to put on make-up. LOL! nah, I’m beautiful without it!)
3) apparently I’m really good at inspiring folks.
4) I’m really good at helping… a lady at my Church said I’m good at anticipating needs and doing what needs to be done w/o being asked.
5) I’m one killer cook! I’m even winning picky DD over on most all of my recipes. one problem though…she doesn’t like the way others make the same foods. LOL!
Oh and here’s a headstart on your list for tomorrow Haley… You have a KILLER smile! very gorg!

Okay. When I saw that pic of you with your leg straight up I thought, “I’m flexible. I wonder if I could do that. I’ve never tried.” And I got up out of my chair and tried it. And almost busted me arse. It was funny.
Hmmm. 5 things I like about me? Er…
I’ll get back to you on that.
Bre said, July 1st, 2008 at 3:58 am
Because I’m feeling down I thought I should participate in this:
1) I love the color of my eyes. They are an intense emerald green (also my favorite color) and I always get compliments on them.
2) I am tall and I love it. I’m about 5’11” (or 180 cm) so when I wear heels I really stand out.
3) I can get pretty determined when I set my mind to something. Like exercise… I get up at 5:20 every morning to work out.
4) I love my nails. Weird I know but they are strong and I can grow them out a bit and people think they are fake… hmmm….
5) I’m good at typing and finding information on the internet which makes my job so much easier.
Wow I’m feeling better now. I should try this everyday…
I’m jealous of your flexibility, wish I could do a split 3 ways.

That was such a great idea!
I’ve been down on myself lately too.
I’m going to blog my 5 things … later. When I have time today
Thanks for the idea.
PS I’ve completely given up dairy and working towards meat. I feel healthier.

Just a thought…5 things you like about yourself that don’t have to do with your body! Your body will change as you age, sometimes not for the better – you as person can only improve with time. What do you like about yourself on the inside?
5 things for me: 1. I like that I can sit quietly by myself and not feel lonely 2. I am a good listener without always having to give advice – really had to consciously work on that.
3. I’m also freakishly flexible pre baby pump but still have awesome balance! 4. I am grateful for my family and friends 5. I take good care of health.
WeightingGame said, July 1st, 2008 at 8:24 am
1. Like Bre said, I’m tall (5’10.5″) and, yes, I LOVE it!
2) Love my back – strong and sexy.
3) I can do a mean French manicure on myself and always get compliments
4) I have an excellent credit score yet still manage to shop up a storm (thanks, H&M!)
5) I followed my passion and became a writer -not the most secure of professions – and I’m thriving.
6) (Can I add one?) – I have the best, most loving, supportive, funny husband who makes every day a treat. That’s not exactly ABOUT me, but he is my other half so…
xoxoox thanks for this great way to start the day, Sexy Lips!!

I like YOU. A lot.
And five things I like about me?
I am an honest and loyal person, and I think those are admirable qualities in a person.
Like you, I have very thick and healthy hair. Hairdressers also compliment me on it. I just wish it wasn’t turning grey. LOL!
I really love my nose. I have my mom’s nose and it’s the perfect nose for a nose ring…which is probably why I’ve had one for the last 15 years.
I have a pretty good sense of humour.
I have very broad taste in music and appreciate all kinds.
Okay, that was a good way to start my day. Thanks, Haley!

That Renee has some good advice there! Glad to see you took it to heart.
What? What I like about me? Following in Lori’s direction:
1. I’m able to make and keep some wonderful friends.
2. I’m creative.
3. I’m a terrific mother.
4. I have an entrepreneurial spirit.
5. I am in good health.

Great idea! I am rushing to get myself and little people out to work this morning so am going to think about this today and either post or comment back to you later. Thanks for visiting my blog! Oh, I just wanted to say that I don’t think comments were given to give you a pity party…I think we all can relate to getting down on ourselves and getting stuck on the negative we see.

5 things? This could be a good way to start the day.
hmmm…
1. I have nice eyebrows. Never need to pluck, wax, or bleach.
2. Nice full lips for me too.
3. Courage. I have the courage to face my fears. Also included in that-I am showing my kids they can face their fears. And mommy gets scared just like they do. (The positives in this one go on and on)
4. great sense of humor. Even when the hubby and I are disagreeing we are still usually laughing
5. I am honest.

Yes, yes, as Lori (our brillers nutritionist over at Cheaty Kitchen!) said, the 5 things need not be limited to the body! I just have the most trouble thinking good thoughts about my body lately, so I chose to focus most on physical positives.
Keep ‘em coming, Gorgeouses! Loving this!!!

Hi, Haley -
I’ve been following your blog and this post made me laugh so hard, probably because I think you and I look somewhat alike (I’d list the hair, eyes and lips, too) and like you I’m freakishly flexible and just started yoga! Also, I would never, on my own, think to list five things. Anyway, I think you’re great as you are – thanks for sharing your thoughts and musings with us. Five quick things:
1. Big green/blue eyes that change color
2. Thick hair
3. Great legs – tanned and thin even when the rest of me isn’t!
4. Great sense of humor
5. Can read really, really fast.
Thanks!

1. I like my big, brown eyes. That is my fav feature.
2. I have very skinny wrists and ankles. For some reason I have always like that.
3. I think I am a pretty nice person.
4. I am honest.
5. I am a pretty alright cook.
