I reeeeeally have to learn to say no. Like, when I go to Starbucks? And, I ask them for a green tea? And they ask me, “Are you SURE you don’t want your usual soy chai latte?” I should just learn to say “no,” instead of caving and saying, “You know what? YES! I DO want the soy chai latte. Make it a GRANDE!”
I’m not someone who has a lot of time on my hands. With two kids under three, a bunch of blogs and a rapidly-growing business, I think I earn the right to say “I’m busy.” It’sgrandma HATES when people say they’re so busy — probably because she’s the busiest person in the world — because she thinks we SHOULD all be busy. She’s, like, soooo type A. I, on the other hand, believe in naps, in relaxing, in taking time outs and in saying no to things (even though I, myself, can’t say no).
I know, I know. Sometimes when you go to, say, events that you TOTALLY feel like saying no to, you end up having the best time. Like, when I was in grad school, I had a kind of social anxiety because I was used to holing up day and night in my apartment — reading at least a billion novels a month and writing essays on them…. But, when I met Josh-O, I had to go out even though I didn’t want to. I always DREADED going out; but, I ALWAYS had a great time once I was there.
But, some things? Like the THING I’m dreading going to? The RIDICULOUS THING that I can’t talk about lest people involved should read this? Some things MUST get the BIG N-O. NO! Too bad I’ve already said yes. But, I’m getting out of it. I’m determined. I HAVE to say no, at ANY cost. It’s such a RIDICULOUS thing. Like, you wouldn’t BELIEVE. And, they totally don’t see how RIDICULOUS it is. They obviously do NOT know how busy I am. Hear that it’sgrandma (love) BUSY BUSY BUSY! I’M BUSY!
Speaking of saying no…. My fave choreographer and So You Think You Can Dance judge Mia Michaels should have said NO to the idiot hairdresser who did THIS to her:
I was TRYING to like this new ‘do throughout the WHOLE show tonight because (did I mention) I LOVE MIA MICHAELS. But, no. Couldn’t do it….

1. RIHANNA….When hairdresser takes out THE BOWL, say NO!
2. MORISSETTE….What’s up with THIS? Someone forgot to say NO when offered a full-length mirror…. Apparently, she’s preggers…. But, still…!
3. NAOMI CAMPBELL should have said NO to this wig….
4. Oh, SIGOURNEY WEAVER! One must always say YES to makeup…. NEVER NO! Especially when wearing that SHINY GREEN PAJAMA TOP (which anyone in their right mind would say NO to)….
5. MISCHA BARTON should have said no when Pocahontas salesperson asked, “Would you like to try THESE on?”
6. JESSICA SIMPSON should have said NO to going ANYWHERE when she was depressed after sister Ashlee’s wedding (and her own rumoured breakup with Tony Romo)….Eeek….
7. AMY WINEHOUSE (obviously) should JUST SAY NO….
8. MATTHEW BRODERICK should have said NO to the superhero sunglasses….
9. MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL…NO!
10. CHRISTIAN SIRIANO should have said NO to this FIERCE fashion disaster….
11. LILY ALLEN should have said NO to the fake friend who said she could leave her house wearing THAT….
12. KELLY RIPA should have said NO to going out in wind and rain in an up-do ….
13. CATHERINE KEENER should know better than to say yes to THIS….

NO NO NO! I should have said no to the spiral perms I kept getting after every child…3 times I said, “oh it will be so easy to manage” and it was horrible. Each time I warned my husband to not let me do it and I did.
*sigh*

Wow, some of those celebs should definitely learn to say no! I can’t really talk though because I am terrible at saying no to people. I always tell my hubby that I am going to be tough…but I never am.

I do have trouble saying no. If I know in advance I am going to have to tell someone no, I get all nervous and jittery. Maybe you just need to practice.

I have learned how to say ‘no’ in the past several years but it was hard and took lots of practice. Some advice when learning to say no: Honesty is the best policy and less (information/excuses/rambling) is more.
