Clean up, clean Up!
Everybody, everywhere!
Clean up, clean up!
Everybody do your share!
—Clean-up song from the monkey’s preschool (and, come to think of it, every program I’ve done with her for the past almost-three years. It’s, like, so annoying. And, now you have it in your head! Mwahahaha!)
HOLLAAAAHHHH! It’s time for WHAT? Giveittome! WHAT? Giveittome! WHAT? IT’S TIME FOR THE CHEATY SUMMER CLEANUP! YOU IN, GORGEOUSES?
As with EVERYTHING, we are LATE for SPRING cleaning. Because we are LATE for everything. Always. It’s in our blooood. We have accepted this. There is no fixing this.
But, MAYBE, this first-ever CHEATY SUMMER CLEANUP will help us with our lateness. Like, when I go to get a t-shirt, or something, I won’t have to sift through my maternity clothes from three years ago to find one…. And, maybe, when I move all my books OFF of my night-table and onto, say, a SHELF — maybe then I’ll be able to SEE my alarm clock and know what time it is. Maybe then I won’t be late for stuff?
So, you in?
Here’s what I’m doing for this year’s first-ever ANNUAL SUMMER CLEAN-UP. And, it’s all happening this weekend….
FRIDAY (aka TODAY): HAIRCUT (eeee!); SHOPPING for a FEW quality essentials (to tide me over while I lose weight).
SATURDAY: CLEAN OUT DRESSER AND CLOSETS — get rid of EVERYTHING except for the bare essentials (and donate it all to charity, of course).
SUNDAY: THE TOYS — clean up THE TOYS.
MONDAY: REWARD WITH FACIAL!!! CLEAN OUT MY VERY PORES!!!
Yes, we are getting a haircut AND a facial. Hallelujah!
In the meantime, look who inspired me to clean myself the frick up and start fresh:

She keeps telling me “I will ALWAYS love you, Mama.” MELLLLLLTTTT! And, her sweet DANCING spirit inspired me all day today. It takes so little to make her happy. Why does it take SO MUCH for me? Time to CLEAN. UP.
Also inspiring me…? You know it!

Of course, it’sgrandma has been on my case to do stuff for myself. She practically MADE the hair appointment for me. AND, she’ll be babysitting when I get my facial.
So, you in, Gorgeouses?
In the spirit of this CHEATY SUMMER CLEAN-UP, there WILL BE A CONTEST. Stay tuned for deets!

A fine idea! I’ll be donating lots of clothes this weekend after a massive cleanup of the kids’ closets and drawers. Then, there will be much shopping to stock up on what they need for summer. I could use a haircut too…

That song originated on Barney. My daughter was Barney-obsessed when she was about the Monkey’s age. We didn’t have DVR back then, so I taped several episodes on a VHS tape and she watched them over and over and over again. The clean-up song became engraved on my brain.

Ssshhh! If my wife hears you, I’m going to be stuck cleaning the garage all weekend.
If it happens, I’m blaming YOU!
Have a good weekend, Haley.

Hey! I like the clean up song, except my version is a bit different–do you think it’s because I taught Kindergarten?
I’m in for some Summer Cleaning–Spring is too short around here to get it all done in the Spring!

Haircut!?! Fabulous! Are you doing anything drastic? Can’t wait for pics drastic or not I’m sure you’ll look and feel refreshed.
The cleanup song totally annoys me as well - So why oh why did I feel the need to implement it at my dayhome? Self-torture is my guess.
I just did both my closet and dresser and Aaron’s as well on Thursday night. We had 3 giant bags of stuff that didn’t fit/didn’t want…left plenty of room for new purchases
Enjoy your me-time!

This is very inspiring. I think we can learn so much from our children, I was nodding my head when you said “It takes so little to make her happy. Why does it take SO MUCH for me?”
The haircut and facial sounds great! Enjoy! I have been putting off getting my haircut since the fall, I think I better make that appointment today…
I think everyone needs an “it’sgrandma” in their lives to help them remember they need to take care of themselves too.

Ah yes, the clean up song. We sing it here every. single. day. Carter loves it and I love hearing him sing it - though it is completely annoying, it’s so cute when I hear it from him!

speaking from xperience…there are no medals given out for being a good mom, wife or what have you, so therefore you MUST treat yourself WITH manicures, pedicures, facials, and a REGULAR every 8 week booked in advance appointment (so you know you MUST GO) to the hair salon. Then you will no longer consider it a treat but a necessity and so you should, because YOU ARE WORTH IT!! It makes you feel good and as a mom you need to feel good every chance you can. It took me years to figure that one out and now my hubby is trained to XpECt it!

Speaking of annoying diddys….when I want to wake my kids up and ANNOY them (as pay back) I sing but more like yelling….WAKEY WAKEY RISE AND SHINE YOU HAD YOUR SLEEP AND I HAD MINE….its so annoying ’cause my father would say it to us…
Renee said on June 6th, 2008 at 10:17 am
well I’ve got nothing better to do! DD is off to Camp this weekend. If DH had been thinking he would have arranged for my car to get fixed…I guess I should go & do that, huh?

OMG I love cleaning. Well sort of. I love going through my ’stuff’ and cleaning it out. It’s almost like getting rid of old baggage. Don’t get me wrong I still have a lot of crap around and my toilets need cleaning but when you get in that mood and clean out and clean up it’s good. The only problem I run into is that I clean it but don’t quite finish it. Like I have 2 garbage bags of girls clothes that I’ve been meaning take to charity for, like ever but they are sitting upstairs in my hallway.
So in the Haley-O spirit I vow to get rid of my two bags of clothes and oh 20 bottles of wine bottles I have sitting around this weekend.
Wish I could do something nice for myself like you are doing but probably not gonna happen. Enjoy the haircut (r u gonna post a pic?)and the facial, you TOTALLY deserve it!

Love that song (yeah?!)… helps with the kiddies.
I started a bit of the purging thing too; need to do it for the kids now. They’re growing like weeds.
And hey, can’t wait to see pics of the new hair!

What has happened? Are you NOT watching the Bachelorette, Haley? I thought you liked Deanna? Please, please update tomorrow night after the show if you are watching it, with opinions, of course!
This is the best season ever!!! I’m in love with Jeremy and Graham. That one guy with the kid is a little overzealous imo, just too sweet, as was the science teacer that got axed last show. I’ll check back tomorrow!
