I wasn’t going to post this evening. Mostly because I’m totally wiped, but also because the rascal’s been crying the whole evening, and he’s finally sleeping now, so instead of blogging I thought I should maybe gorge myself eat? or, curl into tight ball under bed shower? or, maybe even stare blankly at the TV do some yoga?
Right, I’ve been stuck in this bed for most of the day. Sometimes getting up to rock Rascal on the rocking chair, or standing by the window with him people watching — which he seems to like to do.
Poor little guy is clearly in pain. And, I can’t seem to break the fever. He’s vacillating between 101.5 and 104. We haven’t seen 104 since last night. But, we’re still up there. Doc says it’s probably Roseola — an elusive but common baby virus. So, little Rascal should be breaking out in a stomach rash any day now.
If you were following my Twitters today, you know that I had to stick (literally stick with very sticky tape) a bag on Rascal’s PEEEEEPER and collect his urine. The test came back good. No urinary tract infection. Little dude has just another baby bug.
So, here I sit. A little depressed because there’s, like, nothing I can do to make him better. It’s scary, this helpless feeling. Scary to think of my little guy as being so vulnerable. The look on his little face when he was vomiting? The desperation in his crying, tear-streaked face? I don’t think I’ll ever forget it. My little baby!
What happened to the healing hands I so-called have? Why can’t I put them into action when they’re most needed? And, magic boobs! What about my magic boobs and the GOLDEN ELIXIR that is my MIIIIIILK, which has shielded lil blue-eyes from all the Monkey’s viruses until now? Dang. I feel demoralized — as if I’ve just watched 2 straight days of CNN.
Wahh.
But, then there’s this…. The shining speck of light in my dark day….

Monkey got a bike! A princess bike. From friends, of course (i.e., I didn’t PAY for princesses…. Mind you, I did just buy Monkey a Cinderella and Snow White Dolls from the Disney Store). And, a ladybug helmet! And, KNEE PADS! Because every TRICYCLE rider needs knee pads, you know, just in case.
She loves her bike.
Seeing her that excited about a bike is sooo CHILDHOOD. It’s so dang precious.
Well, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. Best get some sleep. Need recharge useless healing hands.
Oh! And, another glimmer just landed in my inbox! I got the yoga gig I GOT THE YOGA GIG! I’ll have a class of my very own as of May! HOLLAAAHHH! Very exciting, indeed.
Thanks for all your well-wishes, Gorgeouses. They definitely helped me get through the day. And, Twitter. Am obsessed with Twitter. ‘Specially on the pinkberry. I carry my fellow “tweets” with me all day for on-the-spot FUN! Kay, latah. Off to write a wee bit o’ gossip before rascal rises…. He snores…. Like a bulldog…. LOVE! xo Haley-O

Sorry to read that the past few days have been so rough. It is so hard when all your baby does is cry. Know that the rascal is getting loads of comfort from you holding him. Hard to believe that a hug/cuddle could mean so much
The princess bike is super cute -my little one has been eyeing one too! Can’t wait to see her on it.
Congrats on the yoga gig! Must feel good to get back into another job you love so much.
Hope today brings better spirits for the rascal!

There is nothing like the heartache of knowing your child is sick, in pain, sad, and you can’t fix it. I hate that so much.
Love the bike! Ride on little monkey.

Poor poor Rascal.
I hate when they are so sick. I think the best thing you can do is just cuddle them and try to tune out the crying. Would taking him for a walk help? When Matt used to cry non-stop I would put him in the stroller and walk. I sware it helped my sanity!

Oh, poor Rascal(and Monkey). I missed yesterday’s post because I am also dealing with sick little ones. It’s so sad and worrisome. I hope they get better soon and that no one else in the house gets sick. Congrats on yoga gig!

I remember having to tape that weird urine collection stuff in one of my babies’ diapers, too. Not fun. I hope he gets feeling better today – having a sick baby is just the most desperately unhappy thing.

and as the book that I keep yaking about says this…”and this too will pass” keep telling yourself that because when you have kids there is ALWAYS situations like this. I remember when Brooke (the MInden lover) was 2 years old…she cried non-stop for a week. She had been very ill with something that you are describing for your son and according to the doctor, she got in the habit of moaning and crying eeek. I thought that it would never stop but it did and she is my beautiful 15 soon to be 16 year old (and yah, I did it 4 times) brave or stupid. Having said ALL of the above, I know it is so worrisome. Take care of you, Mel Hugs

Sorry about The Rascal, kids and viruses seem to go together. The fevers and rashes seem to be going around these days.
Hooray about the yoga gig, good for you.
And on a completely unrelated note, I ordered my very first Chai Latte yesterday and I was practically checking over my shoulder to see if you were watching! It was delish so I can add to my addictions.

Poor Rascal. We just went throught the stomach flu a couple of weeks ago in our house and I hated seeing my 15month old and almost 3 year old so sick. The dry heaving when they had nothing left was terrible! I hope everyone is well in your house soon!
