Okay, I don’t know what’s wrong with me this week. I was SO good last week, getting my posts done during the day and not leaving them till the last minute…. But, I’ve been playing with Twitter all night (see left sidebar)! And, Rascal’s been attached to my boob all night! And, a GUITAR HERO (I ROCK!)! And, a whole buncha other excuses! (AND, Firefox has shut down on me THRICE in the middle of writing this post, and I only NOW decided to save what I’ve written every five freaking seconds so I don’t have to write it AGAIN.)
Once my NEW SITE is complete, moreover, I’m sure I’ll be more motivated and responsible. Because HELLO! I’ve been a lazy arse here, there, and everywhere…. EXCEPT, as you now know, at the gym. I am EEEE-RADICATING this preggo fat from my should-be-wee frame! EEEE-RADICATING.
The fitness routine is one very important thing (see my last post, WHICH I’m too lazy to link to, for deets on that), but diet is, of course, another massive part of the cheaty-preggo-weight-loss initiative.
The crucial thing to remember, though, is that — as EVERYBODY tells you — it’s not a diet. It’s a LIFESTYLE we’re on, Gorgeouses! This plan is for life. Of course, when I get to my goal weight (40 pounds from now), I’ll probably modify it a bit.
Trainer also ALWAYS reminds me that I don’t have to be like a “soldier” when it comes to diet. Like, if there’s sugar in my sauce at dinner? It don’t matter! I, like, don’t have to start scouring ingredient lists for hidden sugars or anything. I just have to relax and try to make the best choices possible MOST of the time.
So, here’s what I eat on a typical day now….
BREAKFAST: I have a rather large bowl of two high fiber cereals with some skim milk (organic, if possible) and a sliced banana. CURRENTLY, I’m loving these two cereals:
SNACK: Soy, no water CHAI TEA LATTE, baby! 250 calories of sweet, cinnamony goodness. Doesn’t get better than that. LOVE!
LUNCH: I try to have a mix of high fiber grains, a protein and fruit (veggies if possible — but I have A-HA-HA-HALL night to eat veggies…). Lately, my favourite lunch has been 4 Finn Crisp Multigrain crackers with almond butter and (don’t laugh) low-fat cheese, and a fruit (today I had FIGS, which are supposed to be great for the skin……..). These are the crackers I was talking about:

There are, like, 5 grams of fiber in 2 crackers…. AWESOME. Fiber is GOOD for you.
SNACK: a fruit or veggie with a protein. So, veggies and hummus, or an apple with cheese or with nuts. OR, and this is a popular choice of mine, PLAIN low-fat yogurt (preferably organic) with a fruit.
By 4:00pm-ish: CARBOHYDRATES ARE NOW CUT OFF BEEP BEEP BEEP! CARBOHYDRATES ARE NOW CUT OFF BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP! CUT OFF!!!! NO FRUIT! NO GRAINS! NO STARCHY VEGGIES! BEEP BEEP BEEP!
DINNER: LOADS of veggies with lean poultry or eggs…. Some examples for your viewing pleasure…:

Cheaty’s Spinach Frittata in a bowl. EGGS, WONDERFUL EGGS!

Cheaty’s Chicken Parmesan – without the BREAD (really it’s just tomato sauce + veggies + cheese + chicken, ALL THROWN TOGETHER, covered 350 degrees, 1.5 hours — easy peasy).
SNACK: I’m nursing the rascal, so I NEED to eat a little somethin-somethin at night. So, when I talked about NOT EATING AT NIGHT in yesterday’s post, I really should have specified…NOT BINGING AT NIGHT. Instead of satisfying my INSANE nursing cravings, I now reach for plain lowfat yogurt sprinkled with slivered almonds, or I munch on carrots and a tablespoon of almond butter….

Is that the FULLest tablespoon you ever did see?
There you have it, Gorgeouses! A typical day! Not terrible at all, right? And, healthy!
Basically, I try to make sure I never go hungry — especially during the day. The less you eat during the day, the more you’re apt to eat at night. So, eat, eat eat!
Also, WATER. TEA. Drink cold water tons! I heard that your body burns calories warming up the cold water! At night, I love my Celestial Seasonings Vanilla Hazelnut Tea with a generous amount of milk — a great munchy staver offer that I look forward to every night.
Oh! Oh! OH!!!! Best part of this diet? Cheat day! Because I’m Jewish, I have a big family dinner at it’sgrandma’s house on Friday nights. I do NOT want to miss out on that. AND, I LOVE my old breakfast of blueberry muffin and Chai at Starbucks! So, I let myself indulge — within reason — on Fridays. Friday is also the day that I do a MAJOR weight-train plus cardio workout. And, all that exercise keeps my appetite in check and makes me feel good and fit even though it’s Cheat Day!
So, now you have all my secrets. How bout you, Gorgeouses? You got any secrets you want to share? I’ve got LOTS more, including a great book I bought that’s filled with AWESOME tips. Remind me to share it with you tomorrow. I HAVE to get to bed now…. I hope that I answered some of your questions (from yesterday’s comments and email). If not, then grill me again. LOVE! xo Haley-O

If you like hummus you must try the President’s Choice spicy hummus. It is to DIE for. And because it has a wee bit of a kick you actually end up eating less than if it were the regular kind…and the texture is good (not too thick or too chick peas-y)

I guess you don’t wanna hear where we’re going to dinner tonight to celebrate DH’s birthday & Valentines…oops! Yeah, you don’t wanna hear this cuz you don’t eat mammals. So I won’t say. But just know that tonight, I’m eating tons of terrible food. I’ll be good tomorrow-ish!

I too have 30 extra pounds on my post twin body. I started my “lifestyle change” last week (dare I say diet?).
Egg whites in the am with tons of veggies- 2 slices of low call whole wheat bread with salsa.
baby carrots (i go for the whole bag though)
Fruit
Lunch- large salad with chicken and all the beautiful lovely veggies that I can cram in (this is my work cafeteria build your own salad station)
Lost only 1 pound last week, hope this low/no carbs think kicks in soon!
I dont eat dinner anymore- since I go straight to sleep when I get home so that I can be up 4 hours later for my night shift with the girls.

you know what mrs.haley-o. I think I could do that. It sounds pretty reasonable and more likely something you can stick to. DO you have like a whole breakdown of what you’re supposed to have and when? you know how many carbs, protein, fruits….. good Luck!!
Ginny said, February 13th, 2008 at 10:42 am
That sounds totally do-able. Way back when I actually had me time and only 2 people to cook for, I totally cut out the carbs after lunch thing and quite easily lost 15lbs! It really does work!! Good luck!

I just believe that everything in moderation is best. I also try not to have to many pre-made, packaged foods and try to keep our meals well balanced and healthy. My biggest problem is portion control – if I like something I want more of it! I lost all of the pregnancy weight from my second baby and just finished breast feeding Her (she’s 13 months old), so I am hoping I can shed maybe 10 more pounds to get to a more “ideal” weight.

looks great, my friend has been on your regime for a little over a year now, she lost 40lbs. the 5 (small) meals a day is a good program. Another breakfast idea since your bf’ing is two egg whites and oatmeal (prepared with hotwater) and mix together and make an omelette. You can have it with apple butter. Also, morning snack could be handfull of almonds. BTW .. what do you recommend for vitimins. Personally I take multi, plus vit. D, plus zinc. But what about calcium (extra)?

Wow, that does look do-able….so why do you cut carbs off at 4pm. I know kind of obvious but I just wondered.
I love popcorn. I don’t care about the butter or salt (I do like salt but can eat it without) so I do tend to eat lots and lots of popcorn, it fills me up and it’s a big fibre…heard anything bad about popcorn?
Also, I fell in love with you while you were drawing names, I actually don’t think I’ve heard you speak before and I instantly liked you…now I have a voice to go with the posts. I don’t mean to be such a bad reader, I try and keep up its just sometimes everything….ev er y thing gets in the way. Note to self, read more of you.

Know who H-A-T-E-S milk? ME!!!! Know who has been drinking (1%), me! Know why? Because apparently it’s good for you and good for your diet. The biggest loser taught me that it curbs your appetite when you want a snack and is full of protein and hello! Calcium. I do feel better now that I’ve been having a class a night but I’ll never love it.
How’s the almond butter?

Your spinach fritatta looks amazing! I don’t even know what the heck that is, but it is making me hungry.
Oh, and the Flax Plus cereal is delicious. It’s also yummy mixed with vanilla yogurt. Unfortunately I learned to binge on that since it tasted so great.

I’ve been fibre crazy as well. But moreso becuase pregnancy is taking a toil on my bowels. Thanks for the good tips on fibre foods. One to pass onto you. You can get most juices with fibre, including orange and cranberry.
Good Luck
