I’m THO THTUPID!!!
All this time….
All this time, there was such a simple solution….
Why did I…?
Why did I ever decide to…?
Why did I ever decide to FORGO THE NAP???
The monkey has NOT been napping AT ALL for several months. I was convinced she gave it up. Lots of other 2.5 year-olds I know have given up their naps, so I figured it’s normal for my little monkey to run around like a maniac ALL the livelong day…. But, helloooo? Sanity? Are you out there?
Are you there Sanity? It’s me, Haley-O.
Well! This afternoon, I had TWO AND A HALF HOURS of ME-TIME because…look….LOOOOK:
(Exhibit #1)

(Exhibit #2!!!!!)

Can you believe how BIG? It freaks me out — no kidding.
They are sleeping. DURING THE DAY! What a foreign freaking concept!
I’m telling you…. It’s the answer to my prayers….
So is spinning….
This morning, instead of taking the monkey to see a fire truck (as I’d planned), I hauled my arse over to the gym. Yes, I dropped the kids off at the gym daycare and got on that bike at 9:30 this morning. I SUCKED. Was the slowest, most outta shape spinner there. But, that was okay! I was sweating, and I could FEEL the fat disintegrating. Awwwwwesome!
Okay, had other stuff to say but am too tired. Collapsing on keyboard. See?: ijreoarg;hrieir38953i5j
Also. I made salad:

I LOATHE making salad. But, it = good.
Tomorrow is weigh day. Wish me luck…. Hopefully spinning did it’s THANG.

My son has only kind of given up naps. (he’s almost 4). At daycar he sleeps sometimes. On weekends he sleeps sometimes. I’d say since he was 3 he really hasn’t napped consistently. If we have a really busy morning he may, but he’s quite happy to have “quiet time” and watch tv and lie on the couch. I’ll take it. If I’m home with him I nap and he watches a movie (like Peter Pan) that I know keeps his attention so he won’t get into anything.
Good luck on weigh-in. I know the stress!

Yummy salad! I also hate making them. It takes so much time to chop/cut all the yummies for it.
My kids still nap. Adylynn, 4, naps pretty regularly during the week. BUT I can’t call it napping. It is rest time and she watches a movie in my room or on the couch and almost always falls asleep for an hour or more. Jaden, 2, naps everyday in his bed for at least 1.5 hours. My stepson, 6, will rest when we have had a busy day and is now getting to a point where he will ask to lay down if he gets tired in the afternoon.
I think schedule is most important. Make sure you have naptime around the same time everyday. And start saying things about nap is coming. Adylynn usually has her movie picked out for rest time when she gets up in the morning. She picks out her movie and decides where she is going to rest then when I put Jaden down she gets her snugglies and blanket and lays down to wait for me to start her movie.
Hope today brings you more naps

We always had “go in your room, read, listen to music (quietly). Called Quiet Time. No exceptions. The boys got used to it, and even slept at times, but regardless, Quiet Time was 1:00-2:30 every day!
Lindsey said, January 18th, 2008 at 9:32 am
The only way to keep you sanity is to lie down yourself when you really need it while they nap. Of course getting them to nap at the same time isn’t always easy! I know it’s hard to nap cause there are usually a million things you want/need to do! I can relate but sometimes you just have to say…screw it and order in dinner, the laundry can wait a few hours.
I don’t really practice what I preach but it’s a good theory, isn’t it??Hahaha. My 3 year-old naps 2-3 hours a day… usually. Three mornings a week at preschool poop him out and the rest of the time I make sure to tire him out… all a big prep for the afternoon nap (AKA Mommie’s quiet time). The 4 month-old doesn’t always sleep at the same time but when he does it is BLISS!! I also stay up waaaay too late just to have some peace & quiet. Sometimes I’m cleaning the kitchen at 11pm and checking your site at 12:30am to see if your newest post is up yet!!

My oldest didn’t give up naps COMPLETELY until she was about 4. By then she was only napping every 2-3 days, though. The next one gave them up around 2 1/2, because she shared a room with my 3rd, and kept waking that one up, so I tried napping her in another room, but she’d have none of it. My 3rd stopped napping around 2 1/2 also, mainly because of scheduling problems with running her sisters all over creation. So she would still sleep in the carseat sometimes, but no good bed naps. This last one is 15 months, and she recently went from 2 naps per day to one. I hope she’ll keep the one for a long long time, though. Since the others will be in school as she gets older and the house will be quiet, I’m hoping for a napping history more like my oldest’s.

That salad looks awesome! My son is 26 months and still naps really well. I think kids give up their naps waaay too early. I have been told try and have them keep them until they are 3 or 4 or even 5 because kids are getting increasingly less sleep these days.

Love the sleeping babies pictures… so cute! With the older two, I stopped letting them nap at about 4 years old, because it really affected how well they slept at night. Until then, they had at least 1.5 hours in the early afternoon just to take the edge off. The 2-year-old is still anywhere between 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

Oh yes. Kids must have naps. My mom always tells me about how she forced us to take naps until we went to 1st grade. I plan on doing the same thing with my boys. Even if they don’t sleep. They need the down time. And so do I!
Each kid is different with naps. My Joe is almost 5 and he still goes down for about 1-2 hours in the afternoon. More if he didn’t sleep well the night before.
That salad looks delish!

My oldest, who’s 2 1/2, still takes a 1-2 hour nap every afternoon. Youngest, 1, is sick and taking 4 naps right now, but normally takes 2 1-hour long naps each day. I think I’d got nutso if oldest didn’t nap, since he’s so active!
I need to follow your lead and start excercize, but it’s hard to do with 8 hour work day and then taking care of my monkeys at home!
Renee said, January 18th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Even if you can’t get her to nap (it is common for her to only take one ever few days now) you can insist that she play quietly in her room by herself.
I forget when DD quit her naps for good…probably about 2.5. See we never had any routine or schedule…so if she wanted a nap she would go lay down, if she didn’t no big deal.
DH would always worry that if she napped too late that she wouldn’t be tired at bedtime. He didn’t need to. It never mattered when she slept, bedtime always stuck.
Hey, you could probably use a nap too.

But you don’t tell us HOW you made that nap happen!
#1 gave up his nap one month into preschool (he was three and a month).
#2 napped longer, until last year, I think. So she was four. Still tired, though: until October, she’d get tired out if she played with a friend much past 2, although she still wouldn’t nap.
Now, she’s caught up and goes all day long. So when I need a nap, I curl up on the couch and she can watch TV, play with her brother (if he’s home from school), or play computer. Or read. Or do anything quiet.
It’s the law around here. Let Mom Nap.

ah the blessed nap! I can’t wait until my little guy starts to nap at predictible times so I can try to take advantage of these moments! Right now he just randomly falls asleep with no rhyme or reason. Yesterday I took the little guy into work to see some co-workers. I was bouncing him on my knee chatting away when someone walking by says, “looks like he fell asleep”. I look down and sure enough there is his head bobbing around because I’m still bouncing him and he is trying to sleep. ha ha oops.

Hales, I thought you were blogging about your napping… which although I was told and I told any newborn mom who would listen, is what you’re supposed to do when the baby naps. Yaaahhh, rrrright…
Anywhoo, big boy stopped napping at about 4.5, but really only because his friend at daycare wasn’t much of a napper so he wanted to stay up just like him. Other than that he would likely have kept sleeping like a rock for 2 solid hours until grade 1. The G still naps for about 1.5 hours every afternoon, and she’s about 37 months now (I know, months… she’s 3 now but it still hurts Mommy to admit it).

At just over 2 1/2, Bee gives up naps periodically, and I cry and wonder how I will cope and by 4pm she hits the wall, and just when I’m pretty sure that I’m gonna off myself, she willingly starts to take naps again. Aaaah. So I’ve learned not to force her, but to persevere.

Nap times ROCK! Mine Napped till he was about 5 and a half! They got shorter as he got older.
Believe it or not kids who have naps sleep better at night time as well! I have a friend who had a child with sleep issues and this was what solved her problem. They took him to all kinds of specialist.
Routine. You have to make it part of the Routine. And Don’t let them sleep too long too late! I think the best Nap Time is from 1:30 – 2:30. (Longer for younger ones.) Dinner at 6, Bath at 7, Then story time and the light goes off at 8.
THEN you have Mommy and Daddy time and we all know how special that is!
My Mom always told me that you have to make sure when you’re married you have time alone with your husband. Even if you’re just watching TV together. Kids grow up and move away. It’s the relationship with your spouse that is most important.

Naps are the best! It seriously almost ruins my day if I can’t get them down to nap.
Noah is slowly giving up his naps. He naps probably 5 days our of 7 and when he does it, he’ll do 2-3 hours. During a growth spurt or if he’s not feeling well he’ll even do 4 hours.
Katie is not much of a sleeper. She does about 45 minutes in the morning and an hour or if I’m lucky 1.5 hours in the afternoon.
I’m all for quiet time though. On the days that Noah doesn’t nap he has quiet time in his room with books, stuffed animals, etc.
I’m glad you are feeling better! Sounds like you are doing great. And spinning to boot!

I’m pregnant with my fourth so I hope we will be able to sneak some nap time or at least rest time when the baby is born.
P.S. I always loved spinning, I actually would feel like I got kicked in the a** after one of those classes
