In response to yesterday’s post, I got lots of emails and comments asking “WHY WHY WHYYY forgo the CHAIII”!? You wanted to know why I couldn’t just opt for the “skinny” chai, and call it a day. Oh, I wish it were that simple.
First of all, I do order the skinny chai. Either that, or I order the soy, which has basically the same number of calories. I would NEVAH order anything from Starbucks that wasn’t either nonfat or soy. NEVAH! You see, for me, it’s not the calories or the fat that’s the problem; it’s the SUGAR. There is an OBSCENE amount of sugar in the chai tea latte. And, while that’s aiight for some (most) people, it doesn’t fly with me. At least not now, when I have so many preggers pounds to shed. My new theory is that all that sugar is ruining my appetite for anything healthy the rest of the day. You know what I mean? So, it’s not that easy for me to have JUST THE CHAI, and not that delectable holiday loaf or blueberry muffin…. No, that chai is totally CRACK, Gorgeouses, and even you said it in your comments. It’s all CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK CRACK! It’s CRACK!
CRACK!
And, I am addicted. Hopelessly. So, I DEFINITELY have to quit it cold turkey if I ever want to get back into shape again. I just KNOW IT. Trust me on this, Gorgeouses, there’s no halfway. I need to quit. QUIT. QUIT. Totally.
So, I’m technically in withdrawal right now. It’s been two days.
My strategy has been to smoke cigarettes instead…. I KID!
I’ve been having the tazo chai TEA BAGS — aka boooooooorrrring! — instead.

And, at night, I’m enjoying another boooooring tea….

To spice up my fabulously boooooorrrring teas, I’ve been using my handy-dandy Starbucks mug, which it’sgrandma bought me for Hanukkah (can you say, “PERFECT GIFT”!):
I love cupping it in my hands. Mmmm. Comfort.
By the way, I think the rascal’s in Starbucks withdrawal, too…BECAUSE HE’S BEEN CRYING ALL FRIKKIN EVENING! I was crying myself because the constant WAHH-ing so NERVE-GRATING! Aaaaaarrrrrgh!
I don’t know what the rascal’s story is tonight. He’s reeeeeeeaaally fussy. He’s sleeping on Josh-O’s chest right now, though. So, ahhhhh!

I also have an update on the blender situation. Because I know you’ve all been sitting on the edge of your seat in suspense. What WILL she do about her blender???!!!???
NEW BLENDER NEW BLENDER NEW BLENDER NEW BLENDER!
And, it’s even better than the last one in so VERY many ways! Check it:
We exchanged our KitchenAid and got the Breville blender. Even Josh-O is in love with it. And, he was in love with the last one! (It was SO hard to convince him that the plastic issue was a good reason to schlep back to crowded Yorkdale and return it…. He totally thought I was having one of my WACKO episodes.) Anyway, the Breville is apparently the King of All Blenders — with the latest technology, etc..
And, the jar is glass. Love.

Amid all the crying tonight, I managed to get out a good long gossip roundup — loads of gossip and pictures there! CHECK IT:
And, GORGEOUSES…..
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Thank you so much for being the best readers in the world this year. I totally love you! Yes, you! LOVE! Looking forward to a GREAT 2008!
Have fun tonight!

I’m glad you found a new blender…I know I was on the edge of my seat in suspense. It does look a lot sleeker. I hope it was worth going back to crowded mall to exchange. Now let’s just hope it doesn’t break after using it only 4 times.

I hear you on the sugar. I used to drink my coffee double double and I cut down to milk only. Now I really don’t like any sugary coffee drinks. It took time though.
Good work on the new blender.
Have a fun New Year’s!

i didn’t even realize that we posted about almost the exact same things!!
i’ts probably a good thing to cut down on the chais. even if you love them. i had to stop drinking any coffee drinks with any sugar in them.
maybe try something else?
i’m currently drinking nonfat lattes with splenda. they aren’t as amazing as, say, a gingerbread latte…but so many fewer calories.

OK, laugh at me all you want, but I really was on the edge of my seat wondering what blender you would end up with!
Call it a secret obsession that I have, but I LOVE small appliances and because there are only so many one can buy/own, I have to live vicariously through others!!!
I have a Kitchen Aid Blender, but it is a glass jar as well! LOVE it. Now, I’m wondering what kind of plastic my Cuisnart Food Processor is made of, it doesn’t have a symbol on the bottom–is that bad???

I need to figure out how to break the sugar habbit too. I’m so addicted.
Glad you found a blender that you can live with. Always a good thing. Hubby will get over it, especially the first time you make him a shake or smoothy. LOL!

You know, I TOTALLY love my chai, too. And my favorite, favorite brand is actually the President’s Choice type! It’s very flavourful!
I know what you mean about having that ONE food that is totally your downfall. Starting tomorrow, it’s going to be a grim world of dieting for me, too.

You should try the South Beach diet. it really is a very sensible diet. Yes you go 2 weeks with no carbs but then you bring them back…but the GOOD carbs. Whole Grain bread and rice. I’ve slipped off the wagon but will be back on Jan. 20.
Silly to try to do it before I visit my mom….she eats for today…as she should…since who knows what tomorrow will bring. She eats a lot of chocolate ice cream.
It is not just the white sugar (Brown sugar is just as bad.) It is the white bread and white rice and all the processed food with that awful high fructose corn syrup. Potatoes and corn are pretty high in carbs as well. If you take the time to read the South Beach diet book it really does make a lot of sense.
The first time I did the diet I could not believe how lovely and sweet a piece of fruit tasted after 2 weeks with our sugar! We do get addicted.
And while it is hard to get back in the Good carb groove I have to say my body feels so much healthier when I am!
It’s hard for me though…an Irish Girl…to give up her potatoes! Sweet potatoes are good but there is nothing like a baked potato smothered in butter and sour cream and salt.
Happy 2008!

Happy New Year lovely Haley, love ya!
You are inspiring me to give up my lovely Second Cup Vanilla bean latte. It does not come sugar free unfortunately and the sugar has been making me feel mighty guilty for months. wah.
Oh and so glad you got the other blender, it looks awesome!
Happy Happy New year, hope it is filled with lots of joy and blessings for you and your gorgeous family.

Happy new year! I always read your blog when I’m stuck waiting for planes at the airport, but I haven’t figured out how to comment yet… so here is a year (or atleast a few days worth of comments)
First – Scary about the blender, I must go home now and check what mine is made of. You totally made the right decision to return it. YUck.
#2- UGGS – I’ve found something BETTER and no animals are skinned (they don’t kill the ducks for down right?) NOrth Face Nuptse boots. They are soooo comfy and warm and water resistant and not really that expensive! Check em out. (the pictures on line look a little funny, they are much cuter on!

Best diet.. ahem, I mean lifestyle webprogram I’ve come across. It tracks what you eat calories etc, so you do have to obsess a little about the whole food thing, but the really cool thing is that you can choose other things to track like vitamins and minerals. You can see how much iron vs calcium vs pottassium you are getting. It’s really kind of eye opening and makes you realize that it is important to think about the food you eat. It takes a little time to set up and some dedication but it works.

What kind of dildo do you own? Is it pink like mine?

While you are going cold turkey on the chai latte, you can think of me…here it is Jan. 6 and I have had NO VICES IN 2008!!! I haven’t had a drink, haven’t smoked (I’m pretty much a social smoker…never was addicted) and haven’t had sex. See what starting the new year in a psych ward can do for you?
