I’ve decided to start my 2008 weight loss resolution early. Like, right after Josh-O brings me my chai and loaf FOR THE LAST TIME. Oh, and whad’ya know. In the space of those few sentences, my chai came and went. Yeah, I scarfed it ALL — and the little loaf, too. And, I feel like CARP now. No, I feel like CARP-OLA.
See, it’s not worth the calories. It’s just not. But, WE NEEEEEDS it. And, you know what that tells me? I’m ADDICTED. I’m addicted to the IDEA of the chai. That beautiful cup, with SLEEVE-GLORIOUS- SLEEVE! (Need sleeve.)

In the morning, I wake up. What do I think of? How, when, where, with kids or without kids, via it’sgrandma, Josh-O, etc., WILL I GET MY CHAI!? Before preschool pick-up? After? Stay there? Have it in car? Then, there are the countless other important questions of my day: tall? or grande? soy (is soy good while nursing? but OH it tastes so good in the chai!)? with water? without water? The possibilities are ENDLESS! And, I’m so pathetically indecisive!
…And, I’m feeling fluffyfat, and my skin’s inflamed with… with… DOTS — teeny dots on legs and arms.
(And, my esthetician has recommended a LOVELY organic spearmint body wash for this….)
I know it’s partly hormones from the nursing. This happened last time. Like, the dots and all.
But, it’s also diet.
Must. detox.
Am now officially in detox mode. As of a few minutes ago when Josh-O brought me my LAST CHAI — the last chai that came and went like all the others. In a flash. Leaving me WANTING MORE. And, full and miserable because it went TOO FAST.
Do I sound like an addict? Or, do I sound like an addict?
So, New Year’s Resolution 2008 (among many): CLEAN UP DARN DIET. Not just for weight loss but for attitude and overall well-being. One must not be emotionally dependent on food and drink. Food and drink must not be the CENTRE AROUND WHICH WORLD REVOLVES.
We’s done widdit. Done. Done. DUNZO.
Adieu, le chai. I now drink only BORING drinks. Like water.

Rent Ratatouille. It’s A-MA-ZING. We bought it and have watched 5 times. The animation is INCREDIBLE. Love the music. Have newfound adoration for rats.
Go check zee gossip!
Are you loving your holidays!? LOVE! xo Haley-O

I still have a few days to come up with resolutions, right? I’m thinking of resolving never to have resolutions, but I too need to alter my diet. And exercise.
But more importantly, we all LOVED Ratatouille as well. My daughter (one of them) got it for her birthday, and it was fantastic! She loved the line where they say ratatouille sounds like rat patootie, so that’s whet she’s decided to call the movie. She walks the line, that one.

you know what’s funny: I don’t even know what a chai latte is. So I guess I can’t miss it.

But… but… but I did my research and non-fat chais have less calories than most drinks. Do you not believe in non-fat? I cannot fathom giving up my chais, I too wake up and cannot consider starting my day without a chai or coffee. How will you do it?

I think the diet is definitely my #1 New Years resolution.
Cinnamon Dolce Latte’s are my downfall…I crave them all the time. I think I could give up cookies with less heartache than my beloved Starbucks…sigh…I’m taking full advantage of these next few days.
Did I mention that I’m signed up for a 10K run in June?! I think that’ll be my motivation to shape up. It’d be so embarrassing to be the last one over the finish line – it could totally happen though.

DD & I are huge Ratatouille fans…we saw it twice in the theatre and will probably buy it too.
sorry about your chai…I hope your withdrawl isn’t too bad. I’m trying to switch my Pepsi addiction for iced tea (it’s one iced tea bag and one green tea bag). And I wanna can the chips too…which is really hard for me right now since I’m craving a HUGE old bag of chips. Luckily there isn’t a chip to be found in my house.

Try green tea instead. I switched to green tea & am loving it! It helps with feeling hungry too. It will be a hard habit to break though…Good luck!
I’m still working on my resolutions but they are usually the same every year – diet, exercise, play more.

Crazy diet resolutions? Hmmm – maybe to stop raiding the kids’ snack cuboard, to start drinking more water and less decaf coffee. I’m also hoping to walk an hour at least 3 times a week… I bet I break that resolution the first week!

My resolutions will be in my TT this week, but one of the things I need to give up is soda, COMPLETELY!

oh, I feel your pain! I am addicted to my diet pepsi and know that I need to just kick it cold turkey. Which means a lot of massive headaches —making a very grumpy (and sleepy) mommy. I need to do it though because I drink way too much of this junk! So that is on the top of my list. If I can tackle that, maybe…just maybe I can get rid of the chocolate too? Hmmm…doubtful! Good luck though, you can do it!

girl don’t give up the Chai- not a good way to start the New Year- taking away something you enjoy
make it skinny- and drink it after a wokout your body won’t even know you drank it – your taste buds will

Water is really boring…but at least it tastes better than CRAPPY Calgary water!! My kids got that rat movie for Christmas I can’t wait to watch it…I’m glad to hear it’s a keeper!

Try this (I too LOVE chais, but they’re so expensive!)–
I bought president’s choice chai tea bags. I boil them together with 2/3 of a cup of skim milk and 1/3 of a cup of water (followed directions on the box, i’m not that creative). Simmer a couple of minutes, then add a bit of honey/sweetener etc.
Delish!

Oh I feel the same way about my morning Tim Horton’s! I think about it from the moment I am awake until I get it and when it is done I wished I had ordered two. I love me my Starbucks (across the street in the grocery store) and the Second Cup (across the street in the SAME plaza, but my Tim’s (on the other corner – yes coffee and hot beverage lovers I can WALK TO ALL THREE) is what fuels me.
Secret. On Christmas Day Hubby drove out of our way to the only Tim’s open in our city so I could have my fix on the way to my Mom’s for dinner. Love.

hmmmmmmmm….haven’t thought much about the New Year’s thing. Must get on that…
And remember you babe is only little such a short short time so don’t stress it too much:)
I agree with the others. Maybe just make it a skinny and skip the loaf…

My New Year’s resolution is to start getting library books instead of spending so much money buying books. I have spent hundreds this year. And I know Matt loves the library. I discovered there is a library within walking distance of my house. So, I have no excuse!!!
As for the Chai, can’t you just cut down to maybe one per week or every other day. You need to wean yourself.
I was seriously addicted to lattes pre-pregnancy, and really hate the decaf ones (there is a difference). I maybe have one a week. It’s a treat for me now, and as much as I enjoy them, I don’t crave them on a daily basis.
I still drink coffee though.
Adele said, December 29th, 2007 at 9:27 am
I think if you take away your beloved Chai, cold turkey, that it could make you binge later. Maybe start by every other day, then two days, etc. Then, the addiction is broken, you can still allow yourself them as a treat.
Have you seen Enchanted? I loved that movie.

I, too, will be detoxing for the New Year and trying to eat healthier. I’m even considering giving up sugar *GASP* *CHOKE*!

isn’t Chai tea ok to drink? It’s just tea isn’t it? I have some in the cupboard and it’s oh so delish. But to give it up??? Bah!!! That is NOT good now is it?
I started the resolution a few months ago so that I could breeze through the dreaded holiday desserts without a problem and I am proud to say I will have no New Year’s resolutions, just keep up the good eating habits.
Good luck to you and Happy New Year early Haley!
xx

I’ve decided to stop drinking coffee at home – water or tea instead. Because I can’t drink coffee without cream, I won’t, I can’t! So it will be a treat….no more drinking a whole pot myself. Sigh.

Oh yes – there are some definite resolutions this year. Normally I avoid like the plague, but this year I’ve got some adjusting to do.
1) Reduction in cursing. Seriously. Before Peanut starts talking. I’d hate to think what her first word might be.
2) Diet clean up, including attempting to kick a Diet Coke addiction. I’ve really let things slide all over the place, and hate the place I’m in right now.
3) Joining some playgroups and other activities for Peanut. We need a bit more external structure here at Casa Babbler.

There are very few pleasures in life…and my chai tea is one of them. They are my treat when I drive into the city. And I make the homemade version (Epicure brand) when I’m at home.
I quit smoking, gave up soda and joined a facking gym. But I WILL not give up the chai crack. Life is short.
And I’m growing fond of the extra padding on my ass.
Have a happy new year!

We got Ratatouille for Christmas, can’t wait to watch it! Did the monkey like it? Would you recommend it for young children?
As for Resolutions–I used to do them, but I don’t do them officially anymore. Why? Because they never last! So, I just think about changes I would like to make and try my best to make them happen! On that list of changes…weight (isn’t that on everyones?), organization and spending less time on the computer!
