We’re going on a DATE! Josh-O and I are hitting the town! Well, we’re going to dinner and a movie. My parents are taking the monkey on their own little date — to dinner, where she’ll likely not eat a THING except ice cream or cake…. A-ny-way, Josh-O and I will have each other all to ourselves for an evening. There Josh will be, strutting his stuff with…this…on his arm….

Yes, I may even wear The Shirt on my date. And, no…. No bra is holding those suckers up these days….
Aaaand, it looks like this will be the last date we’ll have for a LO-HO-HONG time. We better make it good, then, right? So, here’s where YOU come in. I need you to help ME decide what movie we go to. I say ME because I’M the one who has to sit UNCOMFORTABLY through the movie — so, it better be worth it! But, I should be fair to the hubby…I guess. So, HELP: tell me which to see and why!
Here are the choices:
1. STARDUST. I’ve been aching to see this movie because I LOVE me some fantasy. But, but BUT, I hear it’s based on the book, and that the book is really good — so maybe I should read the book first and see the movie later? But, but BUT, by the time I get through ANY book, Stardust will be OLD NEWS. So, I don’t know. What do you think? …Michelle Pfeiffer is just so sickeningly GORJ.

2. SUPERBAD. EVERYONE’S raving about how super funny Superbad is. And, I’m all for the funny. The funny makes my world go round. Only problem I foresee? Laughing my arse off is going to make me PEEEE, possibly in my pants! But, maybe it’s worth it…?

3. BECOMING JANE. There’s NO WAY Josh will agree to see this. So, if you really don’t like Josh, then vote for this one…. I DO LOVE JANE, though…. Ahhh, Emma — otherwise known as “THEE, novel whom I read thrice and only movie I LOVED Gwyneth Paltrow in and watched over and over…and over….”

4. TRANSFORMERS. Here’s one for Josh. He totally wants to see this. But, I DON’T AT ALL. I mean, come on! Where’s the eye candy? You know, the hott guys? I’m supposed to watch the kid from Holes for 2 hours? Umm, no thanks. And, neither Josh Duhamel NOR Tyrese really do it for me. They’re too pretty for me. I’m a CLIVE OWEN type of girl. I like my men burly…HARRR…! Mmmmm, love…. Apparently, the movie’s great, though….

5. HAIRSPRAY. Again with the Michelle Pfeiffer. LOVE HER. But, John Travolta? Not so much…AT ALL. On the other hand, I love So You Think You Can Dance, and one of the judges from that show choreographed the routines in this movie, so……. But, John Travolta….

6. THE NANNY DIARIES. Another movie Josh wouldn’t rush to see….. But, I read the book and loved it! And, I have a HUGE girlcrush on Scarlett Johansson…. I haven’t heard much about this movie, though. Anyone know if it’s any good? Should we see it on our date? Come to think of it, though, do I REALLY want to see a movie about a cheaty little monkey and his nanny when I’m on MY DATE?

8. THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM. Everyone’s talking about this movie. It’s supposed to be PERFECTION. Wouldn’t it make a good rental, though? We rented the other two, as far as I remember. Plus, I’m too big, and arse hurts too much, to spend 2 hours sitting on the edge of my seat!

9. HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. Another fantasy movie. And, again, I’m a sucker for a good fantasy. And, magic. I love magic. I wish I had magical powers and an owl like Harry does. Yes, an owl, 3 cats, 2 monkeys and a husband: family complete. Should we see this tomorrow?

10. MR. BEAN’S HOLIDAY. That one line in the commercial cracks me up. You know, the one where Mr. Bean (who rarely talks) runs after a bus, emotionlessly uttering “THAT’S MY BAAAAG!” Hee. But, could the whole movie be that funny? And, is it worthy of The Date? No matter what, it would totally be a good rental. Anyone seen it yet?

11. RATATOUILLE. It’s SO not funny. Whenever Josh and I go on a date, we always end up showing up too late to catch all the good movies…. So, several times, we’ve ended up seeing an animated flick…. Like Open Season (HATED) and Flushed Away (LOVED) — yes, Josh and I actually saw both these movies in the theater as part of our DATE. How très romantic! Anyway, why quit romancing the animated flicks while we’re ahead? Ahem. What say you?

12. RUSH HOUR 3. I’m not a Jackie Chan fan. But, I’ve seen some of the movies. And, they’re entertaining enough. People LOVE the Rush Hour flicks. Are you guys Rush Hour fans? Because, if you are, I guess I’m going to see it tomorrow. I really hope you’re not, though…hint…hint….

13. BALLS OF FURY. PLEASE don’t make me see this. I put this here because I wanted to see where I stand with you. If you make me go see this, I’ll know for sure that YOU HATE ME. I do love Christopher Walken, though….

There you have it! Tell us what movie to see, kay? LOVE!!!

Great list. I have a year old son and I can remember when it was getting close to the end. I wanted it over but I also was sad because I knew my days would be consumed with a baby!
my very first 13 is up !

Bourne Ultimatum or Superbad are the ones I would choose, though I have seen neither. Love me some Matt Damon. Something about him with Claire Danes made him hotter, though. And I loved Napoleon Dynamite, so Superbad is supposed to be the same type of humor?? I would tell you Becoming Jane, but there has to be some compromise with The Josh. And I love the original Hairspray so much that I am afraid to see the new one.
Rebecca said, August 30th, 2007 at 7:13 am
My rule of thumb for movie theater movies is to go see the one that will be the most fun on the BIG screen vs. being exactly the same to watch at home on television. So with that rule in mind, I would go see the star one or Harry Potter.

McGiblet votes for Super Bad. FUNNY!!
SciFi Dad said, August 30th, 2007 at 7:46 am
I vote for Becoming Jane.
Josh-O: you can thank me after you see Anne Hathaway topless.

The bourne ultimatum…and if not then ratatouille.
Laural Dawn said, August 30th, 2007 at 8:47 am
BOURNE ULTIMATUM!!! I want to see that anyway. Second Choice would be SuperBad. Both look good. Ratatouille is so not a date movie. You’ll get the chance to see it when the Monkey watches it!!!
LAVENDULA said, August 30th, 2007 at 8:49 am
hi hales well i love bean as in mr. but if i were going with hubby i’d pick stardust.although while we were dating i did make him take me to theatre to see the little mermaid…hahaha but i’d pick stardust for sureso mine would probably take me to see becoming jane if i whined about it…
Steph said, August 30th, 2007 at 8:53 am
Go see Superbad! It’s soooo funny and you’ll be laughing at it for days and most likely you’ll both enjoy it. Do NOT see Becoming Jane- it was pretty disappointing. Bourne was ok but I think a special date night calls for something funny. It’s pretty crude so you’ve been warned! Have fun!
ali said, August 30th, 2007 at 9:35 am
um, Haley, i love you….but those ladies need some support right now
ha!
i think Superbad. you need a movie where you don’t have to think and you need something that Josh-O will like too (hi Josh…lookatme…looking out for you!!!
Jennie said, August 30th, 2007 at 9:46 am
Harry Potter, Superbad, Bourne, or Mr. Bean. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you see Nanny Diaries or Stardust – heard they are both
. Maybe you could wear … you know, some extra protection … when you go see Superbad?
Erin said, August 30th, 2007 at 10:05 am
Hairspray is great! If you liked the cheesy original this is better, in my opinion, BUT there is less talking and MORE and MORE singing than the original.
I want to see Mr. Bean’s Holiday and SuperBad. Personally I would rather see a comedy and at least get a good laugh while I am miserable.
Sorry there aren’t any Will Ferrell movies out right now.
ali said, August 30th, 2007 at 10:48 am
can i vote twice?
Maribeth said, August 30th, 2007 at 11:01 am
Fun night. I love date nights with my husband(they are too few however)
I have heard that Superbad was hilarious-a friend of mine has seen it more than once
Ratatouille-I took my kids to see this and I have to say I really liked it
Bourne Ultimatum-My sister and her husband just saw this and she said he was disappointed because he thought the book was better. I liked the first two
Harry Potter-I have never been disappointed when going to see one of these flicks. It just may be the right choice-It works well for both sexes
Have a fun night
Maribeth
Jen said, August 30th, 2007 at 11:32 am
Superbad or Bourne Ultimatum. Seen neither but REALLY want to see both. Maybe Bourne because it would be better on the big screen. Or skip the movie all together and take advantage of one last romp ;]
Whatever you decide – Have fun!
LoriD said, August 30th, 2007 at 11:33 am
If I were choosing, I would go to one that will be BETTER on the big screen than watching it on DVD… so, one with action and special effects. Based on that criteria, I would say Harry Potter or Bourne Ultimatum.
Chelle Y. said, August 30th, 2007 at 11:37 am
Bourne Ultimatum was GREAT! Especially, if you have seen the first two.
Harry Potter was fun, but since it’s been out a while, I’d wait on that one.
Transformers was so cool. I loved that one, and will buy it when it comes out on DVD.
Hairspray was fun. I smiled throughout that movie, then went and bought the CD at Target.
If Jack-O does not like “chick-flicks,” I’d go see Bourne or Transformers. The only “chick-flick” I’d recommend is “Hairspray” because I have not seen the others.
I heard “Becoming Jane” was good, but “The Nanny Diaries” was awful. I also heard “Superbad” was great, but I am not into the rauchy type movies. Haha.
I saw Rat…and Mr. Bean, but I would not waste my time going to those unless you had your little one with you.
Where have you been? I have not seen your name on this list for weeks, but it could be that I just missed it. Hope you are doing well! You look cute!
Susan Helene Gottfried said, August 30th, 2007 at 11:38 am
Harry Potter rocked, but it’s long and you’d miss a lot because you’d be in the bathroom.
Therefore, I vote for Transformers. You won’t care if you miss anything and Josh will be happy. You can cash in on those happy points at a later date!
Lori said, August 30th, 2007 at 12:02 pm
Rush Hour is Hilarious!! i would pick that one or #1! Have fun on your date!! And, congratulations on your blessing!
Di said, August 30th, 2007 at 12:15 pm
Ugh…not a single one of them appeals to me!!! Why don’t you go bowling instead??? And take a video to put on YouTube…I think that would be GREAT!!! And if you got a strike and jumped up and down your water might even break and what a great story THAT would be.
Kara said, August 30th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
Hairspray. I’m not too fond of John Travolta either but he does an amazing job in it! Christopher Walken is also in it. It’s a really fun movie to watch. Harry Potter is also awesome. Bourne Ultimatum gave me motion sickness with the shaky camera movement. I actually had to stop watching it for about 15 minutes. Besides, it’s pretty much the same as the first two.
Mama's Moon said, August 30th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
My personal fave is Bourne Ultimatum (seen it and looooved it!). That, and Becoming Jane; although, not too sure how your Hubz would feel about that – especially since it’ll be one of your last date-nites in a lo-ho-hong time! My own Hubby says he’ll pass so I’m saving it for an afternoon I can get out with a gal pal!
Have a great date!
Julie said, August 30th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
I am sooooo a chick flick kinda girl and sometimes hubby is too, but I am going to vote for Bourne Ultimatum. Action action action. And just think how much fun you can have watching Matt Damon. Good on ya for going on a date. We forgot to do that before #2 arrived and now we don’t forsee going on a date for eons.
Cathouse Teri said, August 30th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Are you serious? You haven’t seen Transformers? No way! It’s the coolest movie EVER! (Okay, that’s a dumb statement, but I wanted to make a point.)
It’s creative, nostalgic and QUITE funny. Very clever.
I was gonna say Stardust, because I haven’t seen it and I wanna… but then I saw TRANSFORMERS on the list and it’s gotta be that, hands down!
I will be seeing WAR this weekend. Which I know will be fantastic.
Also, Bourne is great. And no doubt Ratatouille is superb, but you can see those on the small screen.
TRANSFORMERS needs to be seen BIG! (I know you’re into big right now.)
And be sure and sit where you can put your feet up.
Cathouse Teri said, August 30th, 2007 at 2:52 pm
Also, if you wanna have nice boobs like Ms Teri when you grow up, put a bra on those things! ESPECIALLY now. All the time… even when sleeping!
Ya, I know it’s uncomfortable and it’s probably too late for this advice anyway. I mean you already have one kid! Hee hee.
Anonymous said, August 30th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
That’s a riot! I can’t believe you came up with 13 choices. We’re trying to make the same decision but it’s between Bourne Ultimatum and Superbad. We’re leaning toward the action flick since it will be better on the big screen than renting it.
Btw Nanny Diaries was okay…sweet, but a definite renter.
Enjoy your night out!
Cathouse Teri said, August 30th, 2007 at 2:54 pm
One more thing (maybe).
I did hear that Stardust is only mediocre, but still good.
And I am sure no one has complained about TRANSFORMERS! It’s fantastic!
(Have I said that enough?)
Tricia said, August 30th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
Sorry, that last one was me. I forgot to add: Transformers was really good and is also a definite big screen movie. Ooooo, and one you don’t have that I loved – Live Free or Die Hard. Loved MAC tv commercial dude…sorry, blanking on his name.

Great list Haley-O! You have to pick TRANSFORMERS! I was like you and totally didn’t want to see it – but I did it for Steve (it’s my girlfriendly obligation) and ended up L.O.V.I.N.G IT ! More than he did. And he had a chubby for two months waiting for it to open.
Listen to me now and believe me later – you will like it a lot.
Josh-O said, August 30th, 2007 at 3:58 pm
I am currently loving the choices cuz I cant lose. It seems like it is between:
1) Superbad
2) Bourne Ultimatum
and
3) Transformers
If it is pretty even we may have to go with Superbad only because Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Seth Rogan all stopped in to vote while neither Matt Damon or Optimus Prime have made an appeal.
b*babbler said, August 30th, 2007 at 5:42 pm
Um, Becoming Jane was soooo disappointing.
I vote for Stardust. Or Mr Bean’s Holiday. ‘Cause I love me some Mr Bean.
FENICLE said, August 30th, 2007 at 8:10 pm
We saw Bourne Identity the other weekend….and despite the fact I don’t like the shoot em’ up kill em’ movie….it was pretty decent!

ok, you’re probably already there, but I’m biased toward Bourne as that’s the last “date” movie I saw a couple of weeks ago and was hypercrazy over it. But it might put you into labour. Other votes go to Superbad and Hairspray, both of which I’ve heard are quite good (avoid Mr. Bean).
Teena said, August 30th, 2007 at 11:13 pm
So what did you end up seeing? I’d like to see #2 and #10.
Mine’s up too
Jill said, August 31st, 2007 at 1:01 pm
For me, it would have been between Stardust and Mr.Bean!
