What’s my favourite time of day, you ask? Dusk. When the sun starts its colourful descent. The weather is PERF! And…the hubby is HOME. HE can carry the lazy monkey. HE can entertain her while I make dinner. HE actually LISTENS when I speak. (Toddlers are NOT good listeners, I’m learning — they’re too busy…too busy and too cheaty).
The best part about dusk is when the hubby’s home early enough to go for a walk with the monkey and me. Usually to the park. Where there are SWINGS. The monkey ADORES the swing.

How do you like the monkey’s hippo shirt? My dad picked it out. It’s from South Africa. Is it not FAB!?? (Ahem…it’s called “mommy-REALLY-needs-to-do-monkey’s-laundry”)…. Those are NOT my hairy arms, by the way, or my hands, or my feet. Just FYI.
So, Josh-O came home early enough for us to go for a nice walk to the park, and to swing on the swings and slide down the slide. We ALL had a GREAT time. It was an unexpected treat! Spontaneous. Happy. The best.
Oh, that bike up there? Cute…. But, a pain in the ARSE — because there’s no back handle. Poor Josh had to bend right over so the monkey could ride it. He ended up taking the bike home halfway through the walk. Hee, told him so!
When we got home, I put dinner on the table for the three of us. AKA, I ACTUALLY COOKED. Check it:

That’s me cooking!
…Well, I’m not in the pics because I’m, like, totally in hiding right now. That is, until I get used to being so preggo-puffy….AND, until I do this PHOTO SHOOT I’m scheduled to do on SATURDAY — it’s for a NEW WRITING GIG. My picture WILL BE ON TV. FREAKING YIKES! I’ll keep you posted on the new gig and stardom…!

You MUST try this dressing. It’s LIQUID GOLD, I tell you! Trust me. You trust me, right? And, the monkey LOVED IT! She ate SALAD! My picky little monkey actually ATE HER DINNER, PEOPLE….

Check it again!? See: FOOD IN MOUTH!!!???!!! Hee…. Little did she know she was eating loads of BROCCOLI! BWAHAHAHAHAAAA!
Isn’t dusk the best? Toddlers eating their dinners, complete with BROCCOLI, is also the best. LOVE!

I signed the monkey up for a preschool that I haven’t been feeling so good about. See, there’s no security on the door, it’s dingy, the toys are old, and the teacher is disorganized and doesn’t return phone calls. Why’d I sign her up? Because my friends are sending their kids there. But, that’s not a good reason, I’ve come to realize ($300 nonrefundable deposit later). So, tomorrow, I’m looking into a new school. And, I’m so excited! The monkey and I are going on a tour first thing in the morning. Loving it.

Gosh, WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY PHOTO SHOOT!?! All black, I’m thinking…. Black is slimming on TV, right?

I love kitties.

Wow! TV? Good for you Haley! And congratulations on getting her to eat something, I know that has been a challenge for you lately.
Definitely keep us informed about the TV gig!

Okay, I’ll admit it: I’m jealous as hell of you and the TV thing. If you need the services of your writer friend, holler.
In other news… getting the little ones to eat is a major victory. Mazel Tov! May it continue!
Gotta run and eat, myself. Weird how that worked out.
*mwah*

Re: the preschool. Go with your feeling. I signed Matt up for one I wasn’t sure about. It wasn’t a horrible place or anything, but I wasn’t happy and the anxiety killed me. I couldn’t work – and my boss finally told me to take time off, find a daycare I liked and then come back when I wasn’t a mess.
Truthfully, it was a fine place, but I wasn’t happy, so it wasn’t worth the anxiety (and we found a place we LOVED – so woeth it)

Preschool- I’d say goodbye to the money and find somewhere else definetly! I worked in daycare for 7 years and when I signed Ady up for preschool in March I asked some of the most insane questions. The teacher/director finally asked “Have you gotten burned before?” I told her that having worked in daycare I know the rules and regs and sometimes it is a curse rather than a blessing. I am happy to say that she passed with flying colors and I couldn’t be happier with our choice. Need any help on questions I can give you some insane ones to ask:)
Good luck finding the Monkey a preschool!

DON’T wear all black – you don’t need to look slim and it’ll look all Angelina-making-out-with-her-brother. And go with your gut on the preschool! Dingy and no security are VERY bad things.

Are you touring The Happy Boy’s school? If so, it’s too bad you didn’t come yesterday when he was there, and so was I! Let me know what you think. And if it’s a different school, let me know which one. I’m going to see another one on Monday.

Haley!
Congrats on being the newest A-list celeb! Does that mean that now all the designers and jewelers will be pushing all their free gifts on you? Feel free to forward any of them on to me…
I say go for a dark brown.. It’ll work the blue eyes, and yet it’s still dark enough not to make you self conscious. Either that or a hot neon orange with purple polka dots and sequins… But for some reason those are hard to find in the stores nowadays. What is the world coming to?
I must go check out the gossip now. LOVE you for doing that. Totally keeps me occupied!

That big, orange pepper makes my mouth water! I’m making stir-fry tonight.
Tug said, May 11th, 2007 at 1:49 pm
You need a colorful camisole or something under the black…just a splash of color!
YAY for the Monkey eating!! Did you get pics of you in the park to put beside the Jen & Violet pics??
drea said, May 11th, 2007 at 1:49 pm

I love dusk too for all those same reasons, except not the broccoli part because thankfully I already have a good eater.
but all the other reasons are FAB!
Love when John is home, love when we walk, love to make everyone dinner. (most days)
good luck with the preschool. It’s an important choice.

TV, you say? I know a celebrity!
You’ve looked lovely in all the photos I’ve seen. But black is always nice, I think.
jasmine said, May 11th, 2007 at 3:51 pm
Go gettem’ superstar ! You’re already famous, but what’s a little more huh? I’m excited for you.
Multi-tasking Mommy said, May 11th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
YEAH! She ate broccoli!!! Awesome news!
The bike is too cute, but I agree that the handle is a necessity.
Tv! Are you doing to share the details? That sounds fun. Black, yes, black!
crazymumma said, May 11th, 2007 at 11:12 pm
I love kitties to and black is my favorite UNcolour.
As to the preschool. Who the hell cares about 300$, yes it is alot, but far less than your peace of mind and her safety. Go with your gut Haley….

That stuff is tasty!
Melissa R. Garrett said, May 12th, 2007 at 8:01 am
GOOD STUFF!! PS – that’s one of MY favorite dressings!
Trust your gut about preschools, no matter what your friends are doing or how much money you have put down. We put Jacob in a place I didn’t feel totally comfortable with a few years back, and we were ALL miserable.
Jana said, May 12th, 2007 at 9:50 am
I would love dusk more if I weren’t the one rushing home to cook dinner. But playing with the girls outside in our backyard or going for a little walk is my favourite time too! That’s when I breathe deeply and my whole day is put into perspective.

* It appears the monkey has gigantic hairy hands and a decent wristwatch.
* You got your kid to eat broccoli… are you curing cancer next?

My very favorite salad dressing is Annie’s Natural’s Roasted Red Pepper Vinaigrette. Mmmm.

Monday’s post I’m tagging you…………

Where did you get the salad dressing? I’ve never seen it before.

Kids eating REAL food the best feeling in the world. Sounds like a fun evening the same kind I love too.
