I just got home from a rehearsal dinner for the wedding I’m in on Saturday. I’m exhausted from socializing all evening with a bunch of (very nice) people I don’t know very well. Not my favourite thing to do….
The dinner was at a golf club that was, literally, in a land far far away. I drove there with the bride-to-be and her mother. They picked me up at my house.
Did I mention the rehearsal dinner was in a land far far away?
Right, I did. Tired. Well, it warranted emphasis because this place was so far that I was in the car with the bride-to-be and her mom for a very. Repeat. VERY long time. This would have been great if the two of them were, say, umm, talking to each other…?
Friends, this was the longest, most awkward drive I’ve ever had in my entire life. I didn’t know whether to try to talk or just stay silent. It was UTTER SILENCE! No radio, NOTHING! And, this was me:
Errr, ummm….So, today I went to check out a nursery school at this, umm, cute church….
Errr, ummm, so, the monkey said flower. Hehe, it sounded like “bowa”….
Errr, ummm, so, the wedding’s on Saturday. Hehe. And, I told the dressmaker I’d come pick up my dress on Monday. Errr, ummm, which is, like, AFTER the wedding! Hahahahaheh… heh… ha… errr….Oh, but I called at 8am yesterday and got to pick it up today, yes yes. I picked it up today….um…err….heh…hi.
Errr, ummm, my dress is really purty….heh.
After that last dorkism, I gave up. And, we drove in awkward silence the whole rest of the way with occasional coughs and sniffles. Don’t worry, though, we laughed about it later. It’s all good.
So, off to another wedding on Saturday! And, because I’ll be sitting at the head table with the rest of the bridal party, Josh-O will be at a table by himself with a bunch of people he doesn’t know. Hahahahahahahah! I find this hilarious. Stay tuned for pics of Josh all lonely, and me in my very plain and simple brown bridesmaid dress that looks nothing like the hot brown dress Jennifer Garner wore to the Hollywood awards the other day….
XO Haley-O
P.S.: Check out the monkey on a play date with Ali’s adorable Bella!!!

Ha! Me and my mom used to drive like that sometimes after fights, but it sounds like these two had some drinks at the rehearsal dinner and got it out of their systems! Can’t wait to see pics ~ was just doing some wedding dreaming with my friend Katherine last night!

Having been the date of the bridesmaid on more than one occasion, I feel it is your responsibility to be the DD for the night; at least the alcohol will make him less aware of the loneliness.

The rehearsal dinner was in Narnia? Cool!

Fun fun! I’ve never truly understood why head tables couldn’t have the dates of the bridal party. We did it the traditional way too, but the poor dates/partners of the rest of the bridal party. It’s hard!
Who’s watching the monkey?
Exactly how FAR of a drive is this place? It sounds like the North Pole!!!

That’s where you’re supposed to use the Ralph Wiggamism “So, you like stuff”

I’d have probably slept. Car rides do that to me – which isn’t real good when I’m driving…
Tell Josh to make new friends – you just never know what could come of it!!

Sounds like a very, very uncomfortable drive! Glad to hear it’s all better now, though. Have fun at the wedding!

Ah, the thrill of ackward car rides. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding a couple of months after The Baby was born – I look more than slightly portly in all of the photos and OH JOY! all of the other bridesmaids were 25, sleek and gorgeous, even in lavender satin. Me, not so much.

[...] Another weekend, another wedding, another gig as bridesmaid down the drain. Yess! I mean, it’s such an honour being a bridesmaid. But, I’ve been doing nothing but wedding stuff for the past several weeks: rehearsal dinner, bridal party lunch, buy stalkings, dress fittings, SHOES, haircut, hairstyle, traffic, awkward silences, gifts, babysitter…. Sigh. But, the wedding was so beautiful! A fantasy of Fall colours, leaves, candles, a delicious menu in which even I (on my “clean” diet) could indulge. The bride was lovely — a princess in her self-designed gown. The groom was more emotional and serious than I’ve ever seen him. And, I ate dinner with a fireman. [...]
