Every morning, while I get dressed and put on makeup, the monkey does this:

Ahhh….A love of reading at such an early age! Despite the mess, I love it when she hangs out in her “book nook” every morning. She’s safe there, self-educating, and I can do my thang…for a good, like, 20 minutes!

In other news…. Today, I took the plunge and bought my first pair of jeans since the monkey was born. They’re GAP, of course….I figured I’d start basic.

You thiiiiiink I’m telling you my size. As if! Let’s just say I’m no longer the size 0 I once was. But I’m [#] sizes happier than I was then, and I’m feeling très healthy from the detox, which, by the way, I have now successfully completed! Can I get a woo woo!?!
So, I used the word “sycophant” at Cheaty’s Celebrity Gossip. Check it!
[Please disregard the exposed outlets in the photos. I'm definitely aware of them. The monkey hasn't noticed them, and she's never left unwatched for more than, like, a few seconds....In any case, we've since put outlet covers on them because she's a cheaty little thing....]

Woow woo! What’s her favorite book?

Jess has a book corner as well that she likes to sit and go through daily… but not when Amanda is getting ready; at that time she likes to take off her pajama top and walk around our bedroom topless, trying to pull shirts out of Mommy’s drawers and put them on!

20 minutes! That’s ten more than I can get!

ali said, October 13th, 2006 at 10:24 am
what happens when detox is over? can you eat normally again? what was your first nondetox splurge?
congrats on the jeans! it’s huge to be able to wear jeans! i can’t wait to see them. i will have to kill you when you get skinnier than me, though.

I have no kids so maybe this isn’t an issue but I couldn’t help but point this out or at least ask. In your “safe” book corner you have an exposed outlet. I was always told kids of Monkey age stick things in those and they should be covered? — Just checking.

Gotta love a kid who loves books of any kind. What would my life had been like, had I not had “Harold and the Purple Crayon” as a kid?
Hellish…that’s what.

Congrats on the jeans!!! And, I love the gap. Love it.
PS the reading corner – adorable. Matty heads straight to the tv.

Congrats on the detox, Haley. So, now what? Is there a long-term plan after detox or is it supposed to happen automatically? Do tell!
As for the Monkey – yum! So cute. Babies reading. Love!
Gabriella said, October 13th, 2006 at 2:25 pm
that’s funny I just bought my first pair of jeans too about a week ago and they were from the Gap!
I love the picture with her and her books!
lisa said, October 13th, 2006 at 3:16 pm
Uh I was NEVER a size zero. good for you on the weight loss though and congrats on 20 min to get ready. I never get that either.

Have to address Kugey’s comment! I totally noticed the exposed outlets in the photo and knew SOMEONE would comment on it! HA!
No baby’s ever totally safe in a room by his/herself.
Thanks so much for the concern!!
I will put safety plugs in there — perhaps now while I think of it. Truth is, though, she’s never shown interest in it with all those books around. Besides, even though she’s occupied, I do check in on her constantly.
For all y’all who asked about the detox. I’ll give you a whole post on the next steps in my next post. Oooooo the suspence!!!
But, no, I do not get to splurge. I have to stick to add foods back gradually and stick to phase one of the detox plan (no sugar or preservatives…).

love the little book worm. My bug also has a pastime of pulling all the books to read herself.
She asks for the following things every morning in this order
1. daddy
2. shoes
3. socks (not the garment, the book fox in socks)
It cracks me up!

Sorry, forgot one more thing. congrats on the detox finish. Good for you and I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Keep it up!

That scene looks VERY familiar!
Peggy said, October 14th, 2006 at 12:18 am
Ok does the books out of order bother you as much as it does me? My kids have books galore but I’m so anal about them so I NEED to let them… uhm… touch them I guess. lol
Can’t wait to hear about your next steps. Congrats on the jeans. Tell me about the detox – I’m interested!

That’s great that she loves to read early. My kids loves books. They start out by eating it.
Your’s great, she’s reading it.

Sycophant is a great word. Right up there with pedantic.

Hey, I emailed you a photo of my daughter doing the exact same thing! Awesome..
Amanda said, October 15th, 2006 at 10:11 pm
It’s all about little ones and books–love it, love it, love it! Right now, the Bunny has her favourite book to look at during her milk drinking before bed. It is a non-fiction book about the seasons and different activities children (much older than her) can engage in during each season. I have no clue what the fascination with this book is, but she loves it!

How is it that women can be size 0, but men cannot? Is it really because no man desires to size 0, or we are just way more practical in our sizing, where anything between 30 and 38 is considered acceptable – depending on your height?
The Cheaty Monkey said, October 16th, 2006 at 10:50 pm
[...] Every evening, after dinner and a bath, Josh-O (if he’s home) and I read to the monkey, offer her milk, brush her teeth. This gives us family time and good book time, since, as you know, the monkey loves her books…. At 8 o’clock, Josh kisses her good night. I pick her up and take her to her room. Shut her door all the way. Turn off the light. Total darkness (a must, because this does not work at nap time!). Stand in front of her crib, still holding her. Sing a lullaby, or two….Kiss kiss. And, then I lay her down. Immediately, the monkey presses the button on her Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium — the best invention since Reality TV — and falls asleep! Ahhhhhhh…me time! [...]

You better get some plug gaurds in those outlets.
Haley-O said, October 17th, 2006 at 10:50 pm
Done. Put em in just last night. The monkey still hasn’t noticed they’re there.

Hi Haley – I see there is another Heidi in here, I’m the one who posts in Ali’s blogs.
Love your blog, you are very entertaining (also love celeb gossip too).
Your daughter is gorgeous and adorable – I love the fact that you never give your baby/toddler daughter a haircut so you can just let it curl and grow.
Love the pics – Princess Miranda does the same thing in the a.m. while I have a shower before going to work. Too cute!!

Hiya, Haley (I love doing that!) – want to comment on the jeans thing – GOOD ON YOU!!! Sadly, I have 2 pairs of Banana Republic jeans sitting in my wardrobe at home in size 6 (shock, horror) waiting for my old body to return from the clutches of the Body Snatchers.
All I can say is Thank God for stretchy denim – but I hate low rise on my stretch mark-ridden tummy…
