I don’t know what’s wrong with me.
Maybe it’s the fact that Rascal is (are you ready for this?) SLEEPING THROUGH THE NIGHT! IN HIS CRIB!!! Or, maybe it’s the fact that I’m finally growing up? Or, maybe it’s the sun and moon and stars and carp? But, I’m actually becoming, ermmmm…, more productive….
Before I go on, though, let me clarify one thing: just because Rascal’s sleeping through the night does NOT mean that I’m not still exhausted. In fact, I feel more tired than ever. I guess I have 7 months of not sleeping to catch up on. Body’s all, like, “WTF?” Anyway.

What will his little hands do in the future…. Great things, I’m sure….
Yes, I’m becoming more productive. See, I used to spend every evening watching hours and hours of TV. Not a day would go by, for example, without my fix of The Young and the Restless. And, I was so addicted to TV that I used to ask people what ON EARTH they did all night if they weren’t watching TV. Like, “why would you read a book if there’s so much TV to watch??? Why???” was a regular question of mine….
While I still can’t live without quality TV — i.e., any TV of the “reality” genre (Big Brother, Rock of Love, Shot at Love II, America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway and, a new fave of mine, Trading Spouses, just to name a few), oh, and The Office, of course, and, most recently, LOST (hook-line-and-sinkered…) — I’m not dependent upon it. Like, last week, I happened to miss an episode of The Bachelor, and I DID NOT CRY ABOUT IT! Granted, The Bachelor is no Big Brother, but still I did not cry about it. And, today is Sunday, Gorgeouses? And, I have no idea what’s on tonight. Even now as I write this post, the TV is off — i.e., NOT ON. I actually don’t need the TV on. To think!
Why don’t I need the TV on all the time anymore? Because I’ve become more productive than I’ve EVER been in my entire life.
Instead of TV, I’m now reading a ton! From blogs to novels to nonfiction….
Instead of TV, I’m now PAINTING! Granted, there’s very little time for this luxury, what with Ms. Monkey running around and stealing my paintbrushes…. 15 minutes yesterday produced this very ROUGH first coat of a painting I’ve been meaning to do since my Ba passed away (at almost two years since his death, I still cry for him)….

I know it’s WAY yellow, but it’s only the first coat, and I haven’t painted in THREE YEARS (I was afraid the “fumes” would hurt THE BABY when I was preggers — gotta love prenatal OCD)!

It’s actually freaking me out a bit because….

It looks so much like him….
Instead of TV, I’m practicing yoga. I start teaching MY OWN CLASS on Tuesday!
And, of course, instead of TV, I’m doing so much writing. Here and there…. And, I’m working around the clock on the gallery….
Forgive me as I TOOT that old horn of mine, but it really rarely gets tooted — self-deprecating WHORE that I am, heh…. But, I’m really happy that my TV addiction is over, that life is getting REALLY LIVED, and that I’m more creative and productive than I’ve been in a long time.
Painting again. I’m painting again….
Now, if only I could kick that Starbucks chai-tea latte addiction of mine….
So, what do YOU do in your spare time, Gorgeouses (other than being GORGEOUS, of course)?

Did you take classes or did you just learn on your own ? In 48 hours I : volunteered, painted a fence, made breakfast for friends, raked my lawn, went for coffee, went to work, washed my car, went to a concert and when to a schwanky lounge. Yes, we do have schwanky in the Prairies ( I didn’t believe it myself !)

It easy to fall into the TV trap, but I find that I always snap out of it again and move on to more productive stuff. It is like I need that break for a while then I go into hyper-productive mode…organizing the kids toys and clothes, putting the photos in the albums, sorting all stuff that our household accumulates.
Right now I am in a major TV funk!

I am so flippin’ excited for you that Rascal is sleeping!
and painting? so impressed!
As for free time, I write, take lots of photos, scrap some of them, and do lots of reading. My fave thing is to be outdoors though. This weekend, all I did was superclean my house, teach Sunday School, and have a big nap with my hubby this afternoon. I think that was the very best part, he has been working straight night shifts for a month.
Hope you have a wonderful week Haley,
take care

I used to watch a lot of TV … but watch very little these days. Just a handful of reality shows. Ha!
I don’t seem to have a lot of spare time. I’d like more time to read.

Good for you that you’re finding yourself more productive these days. (And may I say how impressed I am with that painting? First coat or not, it’s still very good.)

I’m so excited for you! Sleeping through the night is a huge deal. I think it’s pretty normal to still feel tired.
In my spare time … lately I’ve been coming up with ways to redecorate our living room and outdoors. We’ve kind of been going for walks. Oh - and I’ve been planning our disney Trip.

We turn the tv off around 9am, but it still doesn’t seem like I am very productive. When (if) I have any spare time that does not need to be filled with cleaning I talk on the phone to my sister, read or knit. Or read blogs.

Yah for more sleep! I found when my little one started sleeping better I was more tired then EVER!!! Enjoy the lattes, think of them as your reward. I started reading again when the writer’s strike was on & truly love every minute of it. I finished my last book a week ago & haven’t had time to get another one, now I’m just itching to read at night but don’t have a book. You’re an excellent artist - great talent!

Yay, I think it’s the fact too that the damn looooong winter seems to be over. I don’t get to sleep through the night YET but have 200x the energy I had in Feb!! TV is a real time suck for sure. Except for Lost. That’s allowed!!
Go go go girl!

I love days when I feel like your feeling today! When all seems like it is going well. We all need days like that to get us through the more troublesome ones.
I hope you’ll post some of what you’re painting for us to see?
I know what you mean about your sweet Ba. I had to put down my Airedale Terrier just after Mother’s Day 2005. One of the hardest things in the world to do.

Spare time? I spend mine sleeping! Mine is STILL not sleeping through the night even though she’s 10 mos old! Arrrgh! She’s now given up nursing in the day, so I must work to get her onto a sippy or something ’cause she’s not drinking anything in the day. Hopefully that’ll translate to taking something in the night so daddy can help out.

So… lemme get this straight. Now you have a little time to yourself. A little time to relax. And rest and relax is the LAST thing you’re about to do?
Spare time is supposed to be just that. Spared of activity!
