Happy Emergency Preparedness Week, Gorgeouses! Did you know it’s Emergency Preparedness Week? Did you know there was such a thing?
Well, the (truly) lovely people at Public Safety Canada want to get the word out, so they’ve introduced Emergency Preparedness to me! And they’ve supplied me with an awesome kit so I can tell you all about it and offer a freebie to one lucky Canadian! Before getting to the big prize, though, let’s Public Safety Canada them have their say. Here’s a video that they are very proud of (and rightly so) — check it:
I’ve always thought about getting an emergency kit, about getting prepared in case of an emergency — because you just never know. And, since I have two children and three cats who depend on me, being prepared in case of an emergency is the responsible thing to do. And, now, I’m semi prepared. I have my water bottles…, and I have my new GORJ kit PLUS one more for one of YOU. Here’s what it looks like:

And here’s what the kit includes:
* Clear tube with shoulder strap;
* St. John’s Ambulance Compact First Aid Kit and facial tissues;
* Water (long shelf life);
* Flashlight;
* AM/FM radio;
* Four “AA” and four “AAA” batteries;
* 12-hour lightstick;
* N95 particulate respirator mask;
* Emergency thermal blanket;
* Emergency poncho;
* Biohazard waste bag;
* Sanitary gloves;
* Emergency whistle;
* Family communications plan.
The total value of the kit is $49.99. If you don’t win and want to purchase this particular kit, go to the St. John’s Ambulance Shopping site. Or, you can create your own emergency kit with the help of Public Safety Canada’s kit checklist.
To WIN the kit, simply leave a comment below. Tell me how GORJ I am or something. I KID. Just tell us why you want a kit and if you’ve ever thought about this before — how ’bout that? The winner will be drawn at random and announced right here a week from today! You have till Tuesday, May 12, at 6pm to enter! Ready, set, GO!
LOVE!

I’m chuckling that this is a prize here as I work for the gov’t and we had events for this week (that just happened to coincide with a little pandemic, of all things) and they decided to do a bloggy giveaway – awesome!
And yes, despite the fact I have all the pamphlets and everything, we totally do not have an emergency kit. So would love to win it.
And of course you’re gorgeous.

I NEED THIS! Seriously.
When I was a kid we actually lost EVERYTHING in a Tornado (and I was 11 years old and home alone at the time) and the only way I knew what was going on was because my Dad had stocked the basement crawlspace with everything that was listed in this video. I actually had a radio to listen to what was happening in our city, and knew it would be along time before my parents got back due to closed roads. And the first aid kit helped me out tons with closing wounds from our house blowing apart.
Lets hope I never need a kit like this again – but I need IT!

This is a great prize! I took first aid/cpr with St. John’s in January… it was great to learn everything but also awful (makes you paranoid about what could potentially happen to people… ugh).

What a terrific prize! Would love to have one of those.
(Also need to get my act in gear to pack a “ready bag” — changes of clothes, copy of contact numbers etc in case we ever need to leave in a hurry.)

because I’ve been meaning to assemble one for ages but with the 2 kids under 4 and the full time job and the house in constant reno mode and the no sleep…well I just haven’t got around to it (kind of like I don’t get around to the laundry…the floor washing, the toilet cleaning….). Great contest cheaty!

Great! I need one of these badly too, especially for when I go to the cottage.
Did I mention how gorgeous you are?

Because of this whole swine flu scare, I already started a food kit! I stocked up on canned foods, dry foods and water. Never thought about all the other stuff that’s needed in case of an emergency. I’m gonna go and get me a kit if I don’t win one here!
Thanks for the info! And by the way, you look fabulous darling!

Okay, I’m going to admit this but every couple of weeks I spent an hour of my life watching creepy 2012 and doomsday theory related videos on youtube. So to say if I ever thought about being preapred for things is an understatement. I’ve been thinking about putting something like this together eventually.

That kit looks really amazing. I must plan to make/buy some sort of kit like that each day and of course i haven’t gotten one yet. Thank you so much for giving the info on how to get it even if we don’t win. Get well soon!

What a great video! I have never thought of putting a kit together. Made me think. I hope I win, I hope I win!
BTW: You are truly gorgeous!
Janet May 12th, 2009 at 10:33 am
I have thought about it. Lots and lots of times. Sadly, have not done much about putting together my own kit.

You’d think I’d have one of these, especially after the big, epic ice storm Montreal had years ago. And yet I do not. Now that I have kids, I really should.
